THE ABC OF WEAVING

YOU DON'T YET OWN THE PAPER WEAVING TECHNIQUE?

AND MAYBE, AND FOR THE FIRST TIME TO HEAR EVERYTHING?

YOU HAVE GOT THE ADDRESS!

Stay on this page and you will not regret the time spent

After examining this small, collected from various sources Master Class You will EASILY AND QUICKLY master the technique weaving paper and you can safely move to a new, more difficult and exciting level, weaving really professional things.

Preparing the paper vine

First you need to prepare the material. It may be blank paper, but practice shows that it is quite difficult to weave from it due to its density. Of course, if there is newsprint, which is used in printing houses, then this would be ideal, since the absence of printed text on it makes it much easier to paint the product. But more on that later. So, prepare plenty of newspapers. Using a sharp knife, cut strips no more than 10 centimeters wide. To begin with, you can practice on shorter strips and only after gaining some experience move on to long ones. At the same time, making a product from long strips is much easier than from short ones.

We put a strip of paper in front of us. We apply a knitting needle to it at an acute angle. Next, we fill the corner of the newspaper under the knitting needle and begin to twist the sheet as tightly as possible.

Don't be alarmed if you end up with one end slightly thicker than the other. This is fine, although it shouldn't make much of a difference. To prevent our tube from unraveling, you should use glue and fix the corner of the sheet. Thus, you need to prepare at least 50 straws. The quantity depends on the size and complexity of the item.

Further actions depend on how exactly you are going to paint the finished product. You can paint over the sticks before weaving. But there are some nuances here. The wrong varnish will make them hard and brittle, as a result of which the vase or box will become rough. It is recommended to use acrylic varnish for artwork.

A basket of tubes, on which the text is clearly visible, also looks beautiful. You can paint the product after production, especially if it is not of a particularly complex shape.

Bottom making

The base of the product can be absolutely any. First, let's try to make a vase with a solid bottom. To do this, it is enough to pick up a dense material, for example, cardboard, and cut two circles out of it. Why two? And in order to hide the ends of the tubes in the bottom, which will be upright. Next, we put one circle and with the help of a pencil we make marks where the racks will be fixed. If this is a future vase, then you can make racks at a wide distance from each other. Some types of weaving, for example, oblique, allows you to weave on 5-6 racks. We glue the ends of the sticks and immediately apply the second circle. A solid square bottom is made in the same way. But still, the wicker bottom looks especially attractive. It is with him that weaving of a basket or casket most often begins. In this case, you need to cross several tubes, for example 5-7. Next, we take one tube and begin to braid from the center in a circle, alternating the position of the main sticks either above the working one, then below it. We build up the tube as needed. How to do this will be described in the next section. Thus, we create a circle of the required diameter. In order to understand how to weave a round bottom in other techniques, it is enough to watch a video lesson once.

Rarely, but still sometimes a square bottom is woven. This is a rather complicated process and you need to master it only after you have made a couple of products using a lighter technique.

Extension of tubes and weaving

Some crafts, such as a vase, can be tall enough to require frequent growing of paper vines. To facilitate this process and in order for the finished product to have the most attractive appearance, you should learn how to properly connect the tubes. As already mentioned, the blank of the paper vine has ends of different thickness. This is what allows them to be unnoticeably connected. We take a stick with a thin end and the second with a thick one. Now we just insert with neat movements one into the other and scroll a little. To secure the joint, you can grease the thin end with glue. It is not uncommon to find a recommendation to cut the thick end before connecting the vine. But at the same time, you will get a sharper transition, since the thickness of the wall of the stick will be much larger than if it is not cut off. That is, in our case, the transition will be smoother, and after painting it will become completely invisible.

Next, let's try to weave the most simple weaving, that is, one strip. To do this, take our bottom and fix a stick near one of the racks. Before that, you need to choose the shape that you will braid. This can be a jar, bottle or box, in the event that a basket is being woven. We lift each end of the racks up and, if there is such a possibility, we fix it with a clothespin. Next, we begin to braid our racks with a free vine. Alternatively, a basket is woven in the same way using two sticks. In the future, you can experiment and alternate weaving with one or two tubes.

The rope is more difficult to weave. This uses two tubes. They are located on opposite sides of the rack and at the same time intertwine with each other in the gap between the racks. But in the photo, this weaving looks especially interesting, and the basket, made using this technique, turns out to be strong and keeps its shape perfectly.

Almost all types of weaving are solid, that is, each previous row goes into the next.

Some products have a cover. It is woven in the same way, only with a lower height.

After the product is ready, you need to paint it and, if desired, apply a pattern. It can be painting, ribbons or decoupage. For each technique, there is a detailed guide that will allow you to master it. Then the product is varnished.

What can be made from paper vine

At first glance, it seems that a limited number of products can be made from newspaper tubes. But as soon as you master this technique, and during work you no longer need instructions, you can create your own weaving methods and, accordingly, new crafts. We can only give advice on how to weave this or that product. In order to create a basket, it is enough to weave the shape with classic weaving. Further, a pair of tubes is woven from both sides, on the basis of which a handle is woven. For practice, you can weave a laundry basket or a box for sewing supplies.

The first bigger size, but in the second one you can make internal partitions. Especially often a vase is woven from newspaper tubes. To create a unique look, you can make an openwork edge. To do this, you can simply weave a pigtail or master more difficult way weaving lace, but for this you need a diagram.

For the decor of the room, pots made of tubes are used, as well as all kinds of cup holders, coasters for pots and hot dishes. But that's not all. A paper bell, strollers, hearts and balloons, frames for photos and even animals and birds look great.

Having looked once an example of products from newspaper tubes, you simply cannot pass by this technique and be sure to master it, creating many useful and beautiful things

Weaving master class from newspaper for beginners

We have been weaving from the newspaper for a long time, putting it on display, and when asked how to do it, we send it to other sites via links. At the next weaving a flowerpot, I decided that we would have our own master class on weaving baskets.

The sticks were twisted, then I connect them two at a time so that they were immediately longer.

I roll it out with a rolling pin to make it easier to slip under each other.

There must be an odd number of sticks.

I begin to braid with that stick, of which there are more in a row, we have 5 pieces.

Just like this, holding with your hand and aligning so that you gradually get a circle.

I also gradually align the rays, like the sun.

The size of the circle must strictly correspond to the bottom of the shape that we will braid, otherwise there will be either a gap or an ugly transition.

Then I insert the form (I have a can of washing powder) and lift the sticks up, and so that it does not move, I need to put a load inside (I have a pot of earth). I fix the sticks with an elastic band (I used to do it with tape) it is more convenient for it. I align all of them at the same distance. Yes, before that I build up all the sticks with denser and thicker sticks.

And it is better to choose a form that has a little ledge at the top so that the sticks touch this ledge and you can freely and quickly insert the sticks. (But this is for the first 5-7 rows) And then the elastic can be removed.

Here's what happened

Close the edges and bend the sticks one by one inward.

Here you can see.

Then crochet or knit with inside several rows and stick a stick behind them

Then we cut off the excess.

To get curly braids, you need to alternately change the shapes that we braid and also fasten either with an elastic band or tape.

Well, then we paint at our discretion. Whoever likes it.

When I was doing MK, I thought, maybe I was doing it in vain, why "reinvent the wheel", so I omitted such details as making tubes and their size. Now I am correcting myself. The size of the sheet I have is half a sheet of the magazine.

Here you can see it from me. 27 cm by 9 cm. This leaflet is from the "Book World" catalog, I have a lot of them. Sheets from the cover or tabs that are thicker go the same size on the tubes, with which I build up the tubes of the sides, which are vertically tied with an elastic band. That's how I put it, it seems clear.

I twist it on such a knitting needle, size 1.5 mm (on which socks are knitted)

Twisting process.

A drop of PVA glue on the corner and scroll between your fingers.

Here, on the white tubes, you can see that the ends of the tubes should not be the same (one is thinner, the other is thicker), so that it is convenient and quick to connect them. In the thick end I drip 1-2 drops of glue (it is better to have glue in a bottle with a tip) and I connect with a thin end (there is no need to regret, push cm 3 or more and therefore you can not wait for it to stick together, but continue to weave, the tube will not come off.

Here is the finished product, which was number 18.

In the comments, many write that the tubes are either very hard and do not bend, or soft and break, so I decided to add a photo by twisting the sticks. This picture shows how to rotate correctly (at an angle of 45 degrees). Such a stick turns out to be both strong and flexible, while the ends are narrow and the other wide.

This twist is also not correct. Low strength, tears when pulled.

Now we have our own master class and we will not send newbies to other sites. That seems to have added the missing details. I paint with acrylic varnish, already colored in three layers. It does not smell, you can paint right on the kitchen table (covered with newspaper) I came across the colors (oak, maple, walnut, pine (the lightest), you can mix them. Someone first paints with water emulsion or acrylic paint so that the letters are invisible, but then a colorless varnish. And I like it this way naturally. Well, it seems like she answered all the questions, weave it for health. And I will try to make an MK by weaving the frame. Yes, more. I can see the edge processing under No. 13-14. And if figuratively with a rim, then the sticks simply wind up, leaving a loop through two vertical sticks under a third downward inward.

“Today we'll talk about how to use an old newspaper. After all, many do not even know that very nice souvenirs in the form of vases and pots are obtained from the newspaper.

If this is your first time hearing about this, then I'll tell you about weaving from newspaper tubes for beginners step by step.

In order to create a beautiful vase from newspaper vine, we need the following tools:

  1. stack old newspapers,
  2. bottle or can,
  3. PVA glue,
  4. brush,
  5. knitting needle,
  6. thick cardboard,
  7. ruler,
  8. acrylic paints (you can use one, for example, white),
  9. scissors,
  10. and also a hot gun, but you can do without it.

In the course of our work, we will use the simple technique.

We take a ruler and use it to divide newspaper spreads into long strips, each of which should be about 10 centimeters wide.
Now we take a knitting needle (you can also use a wire).

We begin to wrap our strips around the knitting needle, while the knitting needle should lie slightly obliquely relative to the paper.
The remaining edge of the newspaper must be coated with glue and fixed. We will have a tube. About thirty such tubes need to be made - they will be the material for weaving our product.

After all the tubes are ready, we take a bottle or jar of the right size (this is at your discretion) and put it on cardboard. Draw a pencil around the bottom and cut out two identical circles.

Now you need to prepare the tubes for the frame. To do this, one end of the tube needs to be flattened a little (from the edge by about 3 centimeters).

Now you need to apply glue to one of the cardboard circles and glue newspaper tubes to it with flattened edges. The newspaper vine must be distributed so that it is at the same distance from each other. To do this, you can make approximate measurements in advance and mark them with a pencil on cardboard. The glue can be applied to the cardboard with a hot gun. If there is none, then we spread the bottom with ordinary PVA and at the same time use a press.

The glued newspaper vine must be lifted up and secured with an elastic band. Now we have the base for weaving ready.

Now you need to take one newspaper tube, flatten its end, estimate it to the bottom first, and then glue it.

We will lead this tube behind a nearby frame tube with right side, it should clasp the frame tube from the outside.

Now we will alternate - grasp the frame tubes from the outside, then from the inside, and thus complete the first row.

If you run out of weaving vine, you need to attach another prepared one to it. This is done simply - in one newspaper vine (the one that ends) another is inserted (as if we are screwing it in).

Attention, when we start weaving the second row, you need to insert a jar or bottle (what you took as a basis) and continue weaving.

Thus, we must weave all the rows. That is, we weave until we get the required height.

After the last row is woven, you need to cut the edge of the newspaper tube obliquely and bring it inside the basket to the limit.

The edge of the newspaper tube must be fixed with glue.

The first frame tube on the right side must be cut off, but at the same time leave a tail (3-4 centimeters), spread with glue and bring it inside the braid.

The second tube, which is located on the frame, is also cut off, smeared with glue and tucked inward.

Next, we decorate the basket. To do this, use a brush to apply acrylic paint to the inside of the basket, then paint the outside with paint. Let's wait until the paint dries up a little and paint over the product a second time.

The bottom of the basket can be painted over three times and allowed to dry.

The decorative basket is ready!

Now you own weaving from newspaper tubes for beginners and you can safely start making such decorative products. For example, you can weave a vase, pot, or bottle shape to add a little variety to your interior.

Weaving a basket of newspapers. The final master class.

Cut the working tubes obliquely and lubricate them with glue.

We fix it with a clothespin for better fixation; between the tubes and the clothespin, you can lay glossy cardboard so that there is no trace of the clothespin.

Finishing the edge, the easiest way.

We bend the vertical post towards the next one, make the second fold so that the distance between the folds is equal to the distance between adjacent posts.

Cut the rest of the rack obliquely, grease the cut end with glue and insert it with a knitting needle next to the next rack. We continue to perform in a circle.

It is difficult to imagine an interior in a country or ecological style without a wicker item from a vine. But where is the vine, and where are we, the inhabitants of megacities? Fortunately for the townspeople, designer Peter Clark figured out how to weave from newspaper tubes everything that is woven from vines and straws.

Weaving from newspaper tubes for beginners is not difficult. You do not need expensive materials or special tools, and weaving skills are developed very quickly. One has only to start, and very soon you can become the owner of an elegant coffee table made of newspapers.

How to roll newspaper tubes?

In order to twist the tubes, you will need:

  • PVA glue.

The newspaper sheet needs to be cut lengthwise into 4 parts. Take 1 strip, lightly wet your finger in the glue and start rolling from the corner at an angle of about 30 ° in relation to the long side of the strip. Each weaver rolls differently. Someone rolls the tubes like hand-rolled rolls - on the weight, others roll away from themselves on the smooth surface of the table. Many craftsmen twist the tubes on the knitting needles. Find the method that is more convenient for you. Glue the end of the finished tube with PVA.

What should be the tubes?

For beginners, weaving from newspaper tubes may seem difficult, because the tubes do not immediately turn out to be even and the same. Do not be discouraged if the tube expands towards the end. It is even more convenient to weave with such tubes, and it is easy to build them up by inserting one into the other. Evenly twisted tubes are required only for small panels and frames.

How to color the straws?

Before weaving newspaper the straws can be stained with wood stain or food coloring. It is necessary to dry by spreading the tubes on a flat surface. It is better to paint the finished product with paints that are not completely absorbed into the paper, otherwise it will crumble during weaving.

Weaving from newspaper tubes for beginners

To understand how to weave from newspaper tubes, try starting with a tray, vase, or box. In order not to suffer with the weaving of the bottom, take a sheet of thick cardboard and cut out 2 bottoms of the desired shape. On one bottom in a circle at a distance of 2-3 cm, glue the tubes of the base, like diverging rays. Glue the second bottom on top.

When the glue is dry, fold the base tubes up. Lay the working tube across, then behind, then in front of the base tubes. Continue until the height of the side is satisfactory.

You can try to make "windows" -pens. This is not difficult.

Tuck the ends of the base tubes inside the weave. This is enough to complete it, but if you wish, you can also weave a plait from newspaper tubes to decorate the sides of the basket.

The pigtail can be glued, the joint can be closed with a strip of newsprint. Ready product it is necessary to thickly cover with PVA glue and let it dry. Be careful, when wet, the product softens and may squint. For greater strength, repeat this treatment several times. A completely dry product can be painted and varnished.

If you're a beginner, learn how to twist the pipes well to get started and try something very simple, like magazines.

Sometimes the materials at hand allow you to create a real masterpiece that fits perfectly into the interior space. Newspaper weaving is becoming a fairly popular craft among needlewomen. They are highly durable, which allows the use of finished products for household needs.

The newspaper tube begins to gradually displace the weaving from the natural willow vine. Now, to make an item, you don't need to go looking for high-quality raw materials. In this case, it is enough to use a regular newspaper. Correct processing of the finished product helps to withstand any mechanical stress and water test.

Our material presents step-by-step instruction on weaving from newspaper tubes for beginners. Tips and tricks from experienced craftswomen allow you to avoid the most common mistakes in the process.

How to prepare a newspaper for weaving?

Before you start weaving the product, you need to prepare a consumable. This will require more than sixty newspaper tubes. For proper twisting you will need:

  • newspaper sheets;
  • wooden skewer;
  • glue.

A long wooden skewer allows you to make a thin paper tube. Any adhesive solution will help to fix the finished result.

  • To do this, cut the newspaper sheets into strips 4 cm wide.
  • After that, we divide each element in half with a sharp knife.
  • Place the wooden skewer at an angle of 45 degrees.
  • Fold one edge of the paper under the stick.
  • A sharp movement begins to curl the paper into an elastic tube.
  • Grease the remaining edge with glue.

Stages of creating a basket of paper tubes

When the required amount of material is ready, you can proceed to the process of manufacturing the product. First of all, you need to decide on the shape and size of your craft. For beginners, it will be easiest to complete a rectangle or square. The fact is that round and polygonal products require special dexterity.

Many novice needlewomen are often interested in: "How to make the bottom of the basket correctly?" There are two types of the bottom:

  • cardboard bottom. It is performed in accordance with the selected basket parameters;
  • wicker base. For this, a certain weaving pattern is performed, which adds strength.

It is worth noting that the cardboard base is suitable for small baskets or boxes. Small items can be placed here.

During the work process, it is important to follow the weaving pattern. Here, each element should be in its place. Any deviation from the instructions is accompanied by a defective product.

To make the basket neat, you need to fix the ends of the newspaper tubes with clothespins to the base of the mold.

How to make the bottom of the basket correctly?

Making a strong base for the basket will help detailed instructions... In the manufacturing process, you must follow the recommendations of experienced needlewomen:

  • Take 10 straws and cross them together.
  • Next, each end of the paper vine is intertwined with the adjacent one.
  • Weaving must be done clockwise.
  • You can increase the length of the tubes by gluing them together.
  • After the bottom has the desired shape, you can proceed to the next stage.
  • The remaining ends of the vine are lengthened and fixed with stationery pins on the surface of the object.

Finished product processing

The most painstaking manufacturing process paper baskets- this is the coloring and toning of the wicker product. It is not recommended to paint the newspaper vine ahead of time. This can ruin the finished result. The paper can lose its strength, which can affect the appearance of the product.

The baskets are primed with acrylic paints and gypsum plaster. These components are highly durable and are not afraid of contact with an aqueous medium. As a result, the product can be washed in warm water.

You can add a water-repellent component using odorless furniture varnish. To do this, it is recommended to open all parts of the finished product twice. After surface treatment, the paper basket is placed in a cool place until it is completely dry.

Varieties of patterns for weaving

Today, there are a huge number of techniques and patterns for weaving from a newspaper. The most relevant are:

  • simple fold;
  • bending the rod;
  • volumetric fold;
  • lazy pigtail;
  • isis;
  • double folds;
  • complex bends;

Wicker basket making workshop

We have prepared for you detailed master- class of weaving from newspaper tubes. Before starting work, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • paper vine 60-80 pcs.;
  • scissors;
  • glue stick;
  • form for manufacturing;
  • ruler;
  • pencil.

First of all, we start weaving the base of the future product. This will require 10 tubes. All elements are neatly crossed with each other. Each subsequent vine is intertwined with the previous one.

All actions are best done in a clockwise direction. Step by step photo weaving from newspaper tubes greatly facilitates the task.

When the desired bottom size is obtained, proceed to the next step. We begin to weave the sides for our basket. To do this, lengthen the remaining ends by gluing with a new vine. We fix the long lashes on the form. They should be as elastic as possible in order to avoid deformation of the finished result in the future.

We begin to weave a new newspaper tube into the finished paper rods. The remaining end of the tube is lengthened. Weaving continues until the vine reaches 2 cm from the edge of the form. After that, it proceeds to consolidate the remains of the paper tubes.

Each subsequent end is smoothly folded over the previous one. They are carefully glued to the wicker base. When the edges are fixed, you can proceed to the manufacture of the handle.

You will need 4 pieces here. newspaper vine, one end of which is glued with glue to the side of the basket. Next, they begin to weave the elements together. When the handle reaches the desired length, it is fixed to the other edge of the base of the basket. As you can see, everything is quite simple. The main thing in this business is to have a large supply of patience and good imagination.

Some experts condescendingly declare that handicraft is something bordering on art. Looking at the masterpieces of our craftswomen, we can say with confidence that such things are the very place in an art gallery, and that this is real creativity. Here is a flight of imagination, exquisite taste and sophisticated technique of performance. Today we will look at weaving from newspaper tubes step by step. New ideas for novice needlewomen, the basics of technology and useful tips- in this material.

In the finished work, it will be difficult to paint over all the weaves with high quality.

Do not use watercolor for painting. It gives a dull color. Gouache or acrylic paint is more suitable. It is worth considering that acrylic cracks after drying, so if you decide to paint with acrylic, treat the finished product. To add color to the work, some craftsmen use spray paint, water-based composition and food colors.

For shine finished work cover with several layers of varnish. In addition to the decorative task, varnish also performs the task of a hardener.

Weaving methods

It is enough for a novice master to master several basic weaving methods. All other options are based on them and will be easy to deal with.

  1. Spiral weaving. A simple option that even a child can master. The tubes are successively built up and passed through the base in a continuous manner.
  2. Layered weaving. Two tubes successively bend around the posts so that one passes in front of it, and the other - behind it. This principle is used on cotton fabrics.
  3. Rope technique. The stripes are intertwined with the racks on the product and with each other.

Mastering these basic techniques will lay the foundation for further experimentation.

Weaving from newspaper tubes for beginners step by step: different products

After mastering the basic techniques, you can start your first job. Better if it is a basket. This simple option will help you master the technology, and the finished product will certainly come in handy in the household.

How to make a basket of newspaper tubes step by step

To make a basket you will need:

  • newspaper tubes;
  • base - a pot or jar;
  • for the bottom;
  • acrylic paint;

The sequence of weaving a basket of newspaper tubes photo:

  1. Two circles are cut out of cardboard. Newspaper tubes for racks are glued to one of them at an equal distance. From above, the structure is closed with a second circle. Tubes - the racks are bent upwards. A form is inserted inside the frame. The top of the uprights can be secured with a wide elastic band. The frame is ready.
  2. Weave the walls. To do this, take a tube, fix its edge at the base of one of the racks and begin to weave its circle of racks. When the length of the tube does not allow you to continue weaving, you need to grow the newspaper vine. To do this, the tips must be inserted into each other, after dropping glue onto the junction.

Important! When you twist the tubes, one end is narrower than the other. Accordingly, when connected, the narrow tip is inserted into the wide opening.

  1. To decorate the edges of the basket, the racks are successively intertwined with the main vine and fixed from the inside with glue.
  2. The last stage of work is decorating the product. To do this, the basket is completely covered with acrylic paint and two layers of acrylic varnish. Then you can decorate the basket with ribbons, beads, braid and other accessories.

Advice! The base of the basket can be made not from cardboard, but from tubes. For this, a flat base is woven, the axes of which become uprights.

In the same sequence, you can make a vase from newspaper tubes:

Secrets of weaving a rooster from newspaper tubes

The rooster is not only a symbol of the year, but also a talisman for the home. In Russian culture, the rooster symbol denotes wealth and well-being in the family.

To weave a talisman, you only need newspaper tubes painted in bright colors.

  1. It is necessary to create a framework. For strength, you can thread a wire inside the newspaper tube.
  2. The body of the cock, head, beak and beard are successively braided with colored tubes.
  3. The tail and legs are performed last. If the braiding is tight enough, the cock can be put on his feet. For additional strength, it is better to varnish the product.

Wicker items have been popular at all times. Only before used birch bark, vine, willow twigs, and now they are replaced with ordinary newspaper, magazine and office sheets. Such products are covered with wood stain, varnish, due to which they create an imitation of the structure of a tree.

This is the popular Master class for beginners will be devoted to the basics of this needlework, since information on it is scattered piece by piece across all sorts of sources, and all the available lessons on weaving crafts are designed for people with basic knowledge.

Material

For weaving, you need paper, knitting needles, paint, stain, varnish, cardboard, glue. Newspapers, magazines, office and fax paper are suitable for work. The softer tubes are made from newspaper, and the thinner, firmer tubes are made from magazines and office paper.

Please note: one newspaper spread should make four tubes (the width of the segment is no more than 7-12 centimeters). Cut narrow strips 2-3 centimeters wide from office paper.

Experiment with different types material, then get an extraordinary weaving from paper. You can create a wide variety of crafts using this technique - from trays and panels to animal figures and dishes.

Craftsmen use knitting needles of different thicknesses. The selection depends on the craft: for example, for a newspaper you need a knitting needle number 2-3, and for office paper - stocking. For the base of the craft, twist the thick tubes, and for the braid - the soft ones.

Choose paint, stain on a water-based emulsion (with alcohol, the product dries quickly, but makes the tube brittle). Dilute the paint with PVA glue (2: 1 or 3: 1). They paint either the product after work, or the blanks before the start of the creative process. But the finished craft is always greased with glue, left to dry. Only at the last stage is it varnished. Cardboard is used to create a finished bottom or container of the desired shape.

Weaving paper: a master class for beginners

How the tubes are harvested:

The tubes should not be soft or stiff, ideally a “medium” paper weave. A bunch of twisting video tutorials have been created for beginners, but without practice they are useless. For example, for blinds and panels, craftsmen specially twist hard sticks; for decorative miniature objects, thin tubes are harvested, where the width of the strip may be less than the traditional seven centimeters. You need to experiment to find your own thickness of the tubes.

Please note that when cutting with a knife, nicks form that interfere with the correct twisting. Therefore, before work, carry out research work: Try to cut two sheets of newspaper into transverse and longitudinal stripes, determining how you get fewer jags. It is from the segment with smaller notches that the tube rolls off without problems.

Weaving paper: step-by-step instructions for twisting and painting

When twisting sticks, one end should be wider and the other narrower. So when weaving crafts due to insertion, building occurs, that is, a narrow corner is inserted into a wide one. If the ends are the same, then one edge is flattened, squeezed and inserted.

When building up, many masters do without glue, they simply insert a stick three centimeters deep into another. Other pros drip a drop of glue into a tube with a wide end, and advance it three centimeters with a narrow stick.

There is also a secret of how to make the twisting run faster and the weaving is soft. Before work, newspaper tubes are laid out in a row and passed over them with a rolling pin. It turns out that each master has “his own” weaving from paper.

Master class for beginners on painting tubes

  • The first way. Paint the sheets before work, then dry, cut into strips and twist into tubes.
  • Second way. Twist the sticks, then paint each one separately with a brush. Suitable for products if you need an unusual pattern.
  • Third way. Do the craft, then decorate it by weaving or chaotically with a brush.

Mass painting methods

For paint, you can use water emulsion, pigments, for eggs. If you get a bad color, continue weaving from paper anyway. A basket, for example, can have any color, just complicate the weaving or resort to decoupage.

Tubing Secrets

Please note that the color becomes lighter after drying. Combining with other sticks, create the desired pattern or draw the finished product with the desired shade. It is not necessary to dry until completely dry. Wrap slightly damp sticks in a bag so that both ends are outside. They can be stored in the cold during the winter.

In work, the sticks must be flexible, and after painting they become hard and brittle. Ideally, paper weaving should begin immediately after painting the tubes. A basket, boxes, dishes can be made from dry painted tubes if, before work, you sprinkle the middle of the sticks with plain water using a sprayer from all sides.

Wrap them in a wet cloth (ends on the outside) or put them in a bag. Procure immediately a large number of tubes so as not to be distracted by twisting during work.

When weaving, an even and an odd number of tubes are taken. It is on the side where there is an odd number of sticks that work begins. The "odd" tube wraps around all the others. As soon as its length ends, build up a new stick.

Weaving types

We have finished with the blanks of the material, now we will consider weaving from paper. A master class for beginners on his technique is given below.

  • Plain ordinary weaving. With a braiding tube, like a snake, go around each stick of the base. That is, it sometimes covers the base, then hides behind it. If you need to return, then weaving goes the same way, but in the opposite direction.
  • Simple weaving in rows. The pattern changes over several rows. That is, take one stick, go through simple weaving. The next tube lays down in the same way as the first. So continue drawing several times. Then you shift the pattern, that is, where the base was braided, it remains free, and the next one is braided the same number of times as in the first pattern.
  • Simple diagonal braiding. Each tube begins with a new base stick diagonally. It turns out an oblique (oblique) pattern.
  • Simple diagonal braiding in rows. Just as in the horizontal pattern, weave with several chopsticks, and new circle shift along the picture.

Weaving varieties

We continue to consider weaving from paper (master class on creating patterns):

Weaving technique and secrets

To keep any pattern, it is braided with a string or pigtail. Let us consider in more detail the "protective" weaving made of paper (we will describe it in stages using the example of a basket).

Please note that the weaving of the tubes starts from the thick ends from left to right. To get a given shape, the racks are pinched to the desired object (vase, bucket, box, etc.). The finished product is abundantly greased with PVA glue (with or without paint), “put on” on an object of the desired shape, and dried. Then, when painting and varnishing, the product from the tubes will be beautiful and durable.

Making a basket

For beginners, it is better to start with something simple (for example, blinds, frames, panels) in order to train your hand in twisting the tubes and their simple weaving. Then you can move on to complex paper weaving (horseshoe, heart, box, bell). Consider a master class on weaving a simple basket without a lid and handle.

To save labor on weaving the basket, use a cardboard bottom. To do this, take an object of the desired shape, circle the bottom on thick cardboard... Cut out two pieces. Decorate them right away (paste over with wallpaper, paint or apply decoupage).

Attach the bottom half along the edge. Now glue newspaper tubes on it. The distance between them should not be more than 2-3 centimeters. This is the basic rule of such needlework (meaning weaving from paper).

Stand for pens, photo frame, hat - any craft should have a distance between the posts of no more than three centimeters. The fact is that a larger gap between them leads to looseness and fragility of the product.

Continuation of weaving baskets

Next, apply PVA glue to the bottom with the tubes, cover with a second bottom, put a load on top and leave it overnight. Now go through two rows with a "string", a simple interweaving of the racks. After that, put the shape on which you will weave on the bottom, with a load (the load is needed to fix the bottom when weaving). If you immediately start weaving the walls from the cardboard bottom, then you will get holes in the basket that will need to be decorated.

Raise the tubes up, continue to work until you reach the desired height. Next, braid up or braid a pigtail separately, gluing it to the base. The same principle is used to weave paper boxes with a lid.

There is another way to weave a rectangular bottom using ribbons and newspaper tubes. This look is reminiscent of working with a rug made of paper strips... Only in this case, you take not one tube, but two or three for one unit. For example, below are four groups of sticks. Then put three sticks across them.

On top, lay four groups of tubes so that their ends are between the lower ones. Now braid all the rows with a ribbon or a soft stick. Then lay the transverse group of sticks again, braiding them with tape. Using colored tubes, you can get an original pattern.

The bottom in this case turns out to be voluminous, as if double. Then lift all the joints, braid them with a "string", smoothly passing to the walls of the product. For trays, this is the optimal paper weaving. A step-by-step photo of weaving a square basket clearly shows the essence of the work. Prepare straws and get creative.

If you have never worked with newspaper tubes, start with simple types. For example, blinds. To do this, simply twist the tight sticks along the length of one half of the window. Bind double knot on both sides of each stick, retreating from the edges by 3-4 centimeters. In the process of work, coat the "seams" with glue.

From above, fasten along the ring for the curtain (blinds will be attached to them) and a loop where you can put a twisted roll if necessary. Paint and varnish the finished product. Now you can try simple weaving on small souvenirs and move on to baskets.

For most women, home is a family nest. And each strives to fill the house with warmth, comfort and beauty. Since ancient times, wickerwork made from tree vines has adorned the homes of our ancestors. But the vine is not suitable for all trees for such purposes.

Currently, for weaving baskets, vases and other crafts, you can use materials at hand - newspapers and magazines. Availability of free time and the necessary raw materials will help you to spend your time interesting and usefully.

Preparation for weaving from newspaper tubes

For weaving from tubes you need:

  • newspapers;
  • glue;
  • knitting needle;
  • scissors;
  • paints;
  • paper clips.

For beginners, weaving is better to watch the process of creating crafts on video. Video tutorials will help you visualize the necessary weaving rules.

The first thing to do is to prepare the right raw materials. The material in our case is newspapers and paper. We cut them into long strips with a width of 5-10 cm, depending on the desired density of the product. You can cut the paper with scissors or use a utility knife.

Note! To determine the direction of the grain of the paper, simply run a few nails along the edge of the sheet. The longitudinal direction does not form irregularities, and with the transverse direction, the cut line will immediately become wavy. When harvesting tubes from newspapers, it is better to use the longitudinal direction.

Then we proceed directly to the creation of newspaper tubes. Take the cut out strip and put a knitting needle on it. Twist the edge of the strip onto the knitting needle. Grease the edge of the resulting tube with glue and let it dry.

In the same way, it is worth making at least 50 blanks. Their number depends on the complexity and size of the product.

At the preparation stage, it is also worth deciding whether you will paint the tubes before the weaving process or give the necessary color to an already finished craft. For painting, it is better to use acrylic paints or varnishes. After drying, they do not make the surface hard, which is extremely important when weaving. The tubing should be flexible for easy handling and easily conform to the desired shape.

Weaving the bottom from newspaper tubes for beginners

Now you can start the very process of weaving a basket or vase with newspaper tubes. And our MK will help with this! A basket is a unique thing that can be used as a storage place for pleasant trifles, and can also become an original gift, made by hand.

Different types of products suggest different shapes, and, accordingly, and different reasons.

A square bottom can fit a small basket or wicker box. A wicker box (or a small chest) looks simply amazing in the interior!

We take a strip of cardboard and fold it in half. With the help of a clerical hole punch, it is necessary to make holes for the tubes at a distance of 1-2 cm.

We put pre-prepared newspaper tubes into these holes. Now we take a paper vine and weave it next to the cardboard. Above the first tube, below the second, above the third - this alternation is constantly repeated.

When we come to the extreme newspaper tube, we make a turn around it and continue weaving, but in the opposite direction. If the tube is over, then glue the next one to it.

We continue weaving the square bottom to the desired size.

For weaving a round bottom of a basket, a beginner for the first time is better off reading detailed description or study the diagrams.

A round cardboard is needed for the base. Take eight tubes and place them as shown in the image. For convenience, you can fix all this with clothespins.

We take one tube and grasp the four fixed ones.

We fix the tube and again grasp the next four, as shown in the image.

After the first circle is over, we will continue weaving in the same way, only now we grab not four, but two tubes.

We also continue to weave the round bottom of the vase or basket to the desired volume.

We weave step by step from newspaper tubes

After the bottom of your craft is ready, you can safely start weaving the side part. So, let's do it step by step!

Step number 1. The tubes, around which weaving was made, need to be bent to the middle.

For convenience, you can put an item for braiding on the bottom of the basket. The most common glass or cube can serve as such an object.

Step # 2. Weaving the side of the craft continues in the same way as the base. The newspaper tube passes first over one stick, under the second, over the third, etc. If the tube is over, take the next one and continue until the craft reaches the desired height.

Remember! All rows of your weaving must fit snugly together, otherwise your work will be in vain and the craft may fall apart.

Step number 3. When the basket has reached the desired height, use a fold for the edges of the tubes and secure with paper clips.

If you wish, you can insert ribbons or beads between the rows of weaving of your craft to implement your idea. This will add uniqueness and originality to your basket.

Step number 4. If you decide to give a certain color to the basket, but the previously twisted newspaper tubes were not painted, then now is the time to think about it.

For painting, it is better to use acrylic paints and varnishes, as well as an alcohol-based stain. It is better not to use water stain, because the product may lose its shape.

At this stage, you can decorate your product with a wide variety of decor.

Step number 5. Giving rigidity. The most in a simple way PVA glue is used to fix the shape of your craft. They need to completely saturate the basket and let it dry thoroughly.

At your discretion, you can add a handle to the craft or similarly weave a lid and use it as a box or chest.
