The gaps between the loops tend to accumulate dirt, so it can be a little more difficult to deal with stains than on a waffle or cotton towel.

Every housewife who uses in everyday life terry towels, must follow a few simple rules:

  • Stains on towels must be removed before washing, using soaking, washing.
  • It is permissible to use only those cleaning agents and detergents that do not contain chlorine: this substance leads to a loss of elasticity and elasticity of the fabric, the towel quickly breaks.
  • Do not dry terry products in direct sunlight, otherwise the softness of the pile will be lost.

Features of machine wash

To wash terry towels, experienced housewives do not often recommend using an automatic machine. They are highly hygroscopic, strongly absorb moisture, and with it the micro-substances present in the liquid. If you wash your garments together with colored or heavily soiled items, the terry cloth absorbs all the particles.

  • Do not overfill the drum of the machine - loading towels is allowed only 1/2 of its volume.
  • Use only delicate mode.
  • The number of revolutions should not exceed 700, temperature - 60 degrees, spinning - at medium speeds.
  • To maintain the softness and airiness of the pile, you need to load several tennis balls or special balls for washing down jackets into the drum.
  • It is advisable to use soft water... If hard water is supplied from the water supply, you must use a special emollient or add not a large number of table vinegar.
  • Use an additional function available in most automatic machines - rinsing. If not, rinsing in cool, clean water must be done manually.

Immediately after the completion of washing, the product should be wrung out a little, shaken and hung in a ventilated place, avoiding heating devices.

Ironing for terry towels is not shown as heat treatment has a negative effect on cotton threads.

  • Washing must be done in a large container. If there are 1-2 small towels, a basin will do, if more than 3-4 have accumulated, it makes sense to take a bath.
  • It is important to use warm water, not hotter than 50-60 degrees. Add 50-100 ml of liquid to the entire volume. detergent.
  • Add 2 cups of vinegar to half of the bath - this allows you to keep the airiness of the terry product and soften it.
  • Intense friction and spinning should not be used; all manipulations should be delicate and gentle.
  • After a short and light washing, the fabric is again immersed in water for 20-30 minutes, after which it is rinsed. If contamination remains, the manipulation is repeated again.

If the washing conditions are not followed, even the highest quality towels will become tough over time.

When buying a bath towel, you want to be sure that the textiles will retain their original softness and tenderness for a long time. Alas, in reality everything is different - going through a series of machine washes, the terry cloth gradually wrinkles, coarsens, and after a month or two new thing no different from a dozen of the same washed towels hidden in the dresser. Why are towels hard after washing in the machine and how to wash them to stay soft and fluffy?

It's not just the quality of the material - a similar embarrassment can happen even with an expensive product - but the improper care of it. However, the little home economics secrets about textile care will help you to correct the situation and bring your favorite towels back to their proper form.

Why do towels get hard over time?

Over time, the pile of terry cloth begins to settle, thickening and deforming, resulting in the product loses its original splendor. As a rule, this is due to the following errors:

    using conventional washing powder instead of a gentle detergent;

    wash in hard water without softeners;

    rinsing and spinning with an overloaded drum or with a small amount of water in economy mode, as a result of which the detergent is not completely rinsed out;

ironing terry products with an iron - manufacturers of high-quality textiles warn that this can only be done with hot steam.

How to keep towels soft and fluffy: machine wash rules

Use liquid products and rinse thoroughly

In order for new towels to stay this way for as long as possible, learn to care for them correctly, taking into account the structure of the fabric from which they are made - terry textiles are capricious and need special treatment.

Use a delicate liquid detergent to keep the fabric lush.

Wash towels in standard modes with a maximum set of water at low temperatures (up to 60 ° C - white, 40 ° C - colored). Start an additional rinse at the end of the main program.

Put special balls for washing down jackets in the drum - they beat the terry thread and prevent it from crushing.

Avoid conditioners, bleaches - these products are poorly washed out and deform the villi.

Refrain from ironing or use hot steam while weighed it.

The water in which you wash your towels should be soft. Unfortunately, the water flowing in the pipes is far from the best quality, and if you do not have a special purifying filter installed at the inlet, then you have to deal with the consequences. Sediment, scale, hard linen after drying - this is not a complete list of what residents of different regions face.

Terry cloth will not remain fluffy in bad water. However, there is a solution - soften it using home remedies: salt, soda ash or baking soda, table vinegar. In addition to the splendor of the textiles, this will also ensure color retention - your towels will not fade over time.

Use your choice of lemon, baking soda, vinegar, or a combination of the latter two

Salt

It is better to use an extruder - it dissolves faster, but you can also purchase special salt for automatic machines. Pour in 3 tablespoons. fine salt in a tray, along with washing powder, or, after having dissolved it in a glass of warm water, pour it directly into the tank.

Vinegar

Pour half a glass of the 9% vinegar solution into the fabric softener tray, and after washing, the towels will be soft and fluffy. In addition, the product perfectly removes unpleasant odors.

Soda

If there is no calcined one in the house, then ordinary food is also suitable. Pour 3-4 tablespoons into the drum of the machine. soda - it will soften the water during the wash process.

Soda + vinegar

You can use baking soda and vinegar at the same time:

Pour half a glass of vinegar into the conditioner tray, half a glass of baking soda into the washing machine tank. Pour in detergent, start the program. At the end of the cycle, you will get clean and soft laundry - the product also perfectly bleaches.

Make a homemade conditioner according to the folk recipe. Pour a glass of water, a glass of baking soda and 6 glasses of vinegar (9%) into a deep container. Wait until foaming has finished and add 6 glasses of water. For aroma, you can drip a little essential oil... Transfer the resulting mixture to an empty bottle and use as needed. One wash will require half a glass of the product.

Any of these can be used as a rinse aid to soften the garment after washing - add it to the softener drawer, or to water if you wash by hand, in the same proportion.

How to hand wash terrycloth

If you are going to wash the towels by hand, keep in mind that the procedure should be very gentle. Rubbing the fabric is strictly prohibited, because this can deform it - you will need to pre-soak to remove dirt. As in the case of machine washing, it is better to abandon the powder altogether, replacing it with a delicate gel or liquid soap.

Laundry soap can be used as a natural bleaching agent - it copes well with dirt, keeping the fluff of terry cloth fibers.

Dilute the detergent in warm water, add salt (1-2 tablespoons per bowl) or baking soda (2 tablespoons) to soften, immerse the towels in the solution and leave for 30-40 minutes. After the specified time has elapsed, gently wash them with light beating movements and rinse in clean water. Terry cloth absorbs soapy water intensively, so at least three rinses are required... Add vinegar to the "last" water - it neutralizes traces of soapy water and makes the fabric even softer.

1 liter of water at room temperature + 1 tbsp. salt + 1 tsp. ammonia.

  • Don't use your own towels instead of potholders - so they will keep their cleanliness and appearance in general longer.
  • Dry kitchen towels (if possible) outside - this way they will stay fresh longer.
  • If you do not want to use fabric softener due to its "chemical content" , you can use baking soda mixed with 2-3 drops of your favorite essential oil.
  • Don't use the same towels for wiping hands, dishes, fruits, as potholders and for covering food.
  • Don't use terry towels in your kitchen - they lose their neat appearance too quickly and absorb dirt quite easily.
  • The boiling method cannot be used for colored towels , as well as textiles with decorations, embroidery, etc.
  • Ironing towels after washing prolongs their purity.
