Pattern preparation

Sewing the front of the skirt

Sew the cut out details of the front part of the pockets to the entrances to the pockets on both parts of the front panel. We turn the blanks for the pockets inside and sew them off with a double stitch.

We put on the back of the pocket from the main fabric and connect it with the skirt panel and the inside of the pocket.

Sew the halves of the front of the product, sew them off with one line and lay the folds.

Sewing the back of the skirt and assembling the product

Sew the blanks cut from the main fabric, leaving room for the zipper. We sew it in in any known way, after which we drain it around the perimeter.

Laying the folds. They can be the same as on the front, or they can be different.

When both halves are ready, we sew them together, and we stretch the seam itself with a contrasting thread.

Sewing a belt and making a fastener

We pass to the last stage of sewing a skirt for a girl - cutting out and sewing in a belt. It is a strip, the length of which is equal to the waist circumference + 4-5 cm to form a fastener. The width of the belt is arbitrary, multiplied by 2. In the traditional version, the width of the belt is from 3 to 5 cm, that is, a strip should be cut out with a width of 6 to 10 cm plus seam allowances (not less than 2 cm).

Sew in a belt and stretch it around the entire perimeter. Please note that if the main fabric for the skirt is thin, it is better to strengthen it with a denser fabric or non-woven fabric.

Sew on a button above the zipper and form a buttonhole for it.

All that remains on the skirt is to hem the bottom, and it is ready!

Skirt year

The peculiarity of this model is that on the front and back of the skirt from the bottom line, vertical cuts are made on the fabric, where the wedges are sewn. These wedges are called “year”. The beauty of this model is that there can be many or few wedges, they can be sewn in so that they are hidden inside the skirt and are visible only when walking, or they can lie with a flexible flounce at the bottom of the skirt.

It is easy to cut and sew a children's skirt, the sun, because the size of its pattern does not exceed the width of the fabric. The skirt turns out to be seamless - a circle with a hole for the waist in the middle.

The main principle of a seamless skirt is that the calculated value does not exceed the width of the fabric.

The fabric will remain on the side of the belt (for large fabric widths). If the fabric is tight, add twice the waistband plus 2cm seam allowance to the calculation. The length of the belt can be equal to the upper cut of the skirt (this option is easier to sew) or less than this cut, but greater than the waist circumference (then the skirt will have to be gathered before attaching the belt.

How to sew a skirt sun

We connect the part of the belt into a ring, leaving the hole unsewn for threading the elastic. Fold the belt in half lengthwise, iron it on. It remains to connect it to the skirt and insert an elastic band.

The length of the elastic depends on its softness - usually 10% less than the waist circumference, but it is better to check it on fitting.

Skirts of the sun tend to stretch in areas with an oblique direction of the threads. Therefore, so that the finished skirt remains with an even bottom line, before processing it, fasten the skirt on a hanger around the waist and let it hang for two to three days.

It is best to align the bottom of a child's skirt with the sun on fitting. We measure the length from the waist, put marks (the more marks, the better).
