Sew a straight sundress without a pattern. Patterns of summer dresses and sundresses for beginners

[Sewing] Getting ready for summer: we sew a sundress! Without a pattern or ready-made, master classes. A selection

Here is the long-awaited summer. How nice it is to expose your face, arms, shoulders to the warm gentle rays ... walk barefoot on the silk young grass or hot sand, and a fresh light breeze will gently wave your hair ... It's time to sew a new summer dress, certainly with a wide skirt, so pleasantly flowing over legs, and shoulders exposed to the sun. It's about a sundress. The sundress is perhaps the most favorite thing in the summer wardrobe of any woman. Being indispensable on vacation, it can also be easily used in an everyday city, and the most strict versions of a sundress have found a place even in boring office life (remember Pierre Cardin and his famous cloth sundress in 1965, worn on a thin black turtleneck).
A cute and feminine dress-sundress will be the best purchase this summer (or vacation at sea!).

Over the entire period of its existence, the sundress has changed its shape, cut, style, fabrics from which it was sewn, and its purpose an infinite number of times.

Today a sundress is not only a part of the national Russian costume, it is a universal element of a woman's wardrobe. First of all, the sundress is associated with light summer clothes intended for relaxation at sea. But depending on the style, model and fabric, sundresses are casual, smart and festive for an evening out, for example, business, which will be appropriate even in the office, as well as sports and warm for the cold season.

Many famous designers find inspiration by studying Russian folk costume. As a result, from year to year we can see collections inspired by marvelous beauty and imagery, created with a constant interest in Russian culture and traditions. Here are some models of sundresses from the collections of Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Slava Zaitsev, Alberta Ferretti, Chanel.

Modern fashion is very fond of the sundress and offers us many of its variations. It can be long, short dresses, multi-layered and multi-tiered, with wide straps, with narrow straps or without them at all, with an open back, with a neckline ... it is impossible to list everything. We can only choose according to our taste.

What fabrics are better for sewing sundresses?

Absolutely from any fabric. The selected model and the season for which it is planned to sew a sundress will become the starting point for making a decision when choosing a material. For the off-season, jersey, cotton, blended and light woolen fabrics are perfect. For the winter - woolen and knitted fabrics.

And if we talk about summer models of sundresses, then the ideal fabrics, of course, are silk, chiffon, linen, cambric, viscose, staple.

So that a summer dress made of chiffon or cambric does not shine through, sew it in two layers, or on a monochromatic lining of a suitable color to the main fabric. Sew the details with a French seam, which will emphasize the delicacy of the fabric and provide a flawless look to the wrong side of the product.

This wonderful summer dress from the latest collection of the famous brand impressed with its simplicity, but at the same time originality. It is very reminiscent of a Russian sundress, moreover, it has a traditional cut, having mastered which each of you can sew a wonderful fashionable sundress with your own hands.

And by changing some details of the sundress pattern (for example, the width and place of attachment of the straps, by the way, it is possible without straps, by running an elastic band along the upper cut of the bodice, the length, width of the skirt, etc.), you can diversify the models created on its basis. Believe me, even a novice dressmaker can do such simple changes in this simple design.

Consider a technical drawing. The sundress consists of a close-fitting bodice with wide straps fastened to a button and a wide skirt gathered at the waist just below the knees. There is a zipper on the back, and in front the bodice is decorated with a decorative strip with a false button fastening. It is proposed to sew this model from printed cotton. But I think that silk scarves will also work well, because in the original the print imitates the pattern of the scarf, although in this case, you will have to use a lining.

To model a sundress, we need a pattern-base of an adjacent silhouette, created according to your individual measurements, which you can take on our website using.

1 step of pattern modeling.

To prevent the bodice from jerking up in a dress that is cut off at the waist, you need to lower the waist line in the middle of the front by 0.7-1 cm, draw a new waist line with a smooth curve. Move the bust dart to the side seam. To do this, mark the new location of the dart and cut along this line, not reaching 1 mm to the top of the dart, open it by turning the pattern so that the original dart closes. see fig. Cut the pattern along the bodice and skirt joining lines for further modeling.

Step 2 of pattern modeling.

We outline the line of the upper cut of the bodice of the sundress, and also draw the straps, such as we like or require according to the model, then measure the length of the strap. We check the length of the waistline and compare it with our measurements, plus an increase in freedom of fit. If the solutions of the darts do not give a proper fit, the missing value can be removed from the side seams and the middle seam of the back. The skirt consists of two, as if, shawls, therefore it has a rectangular shape, and not a conical one. We propose to calculate the gathering at the waist empirically based on the thickness of the fabric, as a guideline - the length of the gathered fabric is equal to 1.5 - 2 the length of the hip or waist circumference. In any case, you need to try it on, so as not to make a mistake and not overdo it with the number of assemblies.

3 step of pattern modeling.

The last stage of modeling consists in building the strap-fastening of the shelf and modeling the strap. We design the fastener bar with a width of 4 cm, see fig. (by the way, it can be both functional and decorative).

Well, our beautiful summer dress is almost ready. As you have seen, this is not at all difficult, but how nice it is to make a pattern with your own hands, which will serve you well and help you sew a new outfit. Using this pattern, we suggest trying to sew just such a model of a summer sundress.

Here, instead of a wide skirt, a regular straight skirt with waist darts and two slits in the side seams is used. The skirt pattern can be taken directly from the base pattern, no modeling is needed.

Or such wonderful summer dresses - sundresses. As you can see, all of them are created on our basis of an adjacent silhouette - cut-off at the waist, have stitched shoulder straps, flared skirts due to gathers, folds. Everything is like in our pattern, which is devoted to the lesson, only with minor changes - a fastener has been added in the center of the front, the shape of the neckline, length, etc. has been changed.

This entire list, of course, will not be to the liking of a novice seamstress. But summer is in full swing, and I want a new thing right now! .. Therefore, today we will to sew a sundress without a pattern.

Let's start with a model with an elastic band ..

  • or insert a thread of elastic into the bobbin, then the process will be even more pleasant and automatic

Sew a sundress without a patternDear seamstresses! Sewing beginners! Today's post is for you. Since today we will consider the 4 lightest models of a summer sundress, and the best part is that a pattern for such a sundress is not needed)).

Initially, sewing any, even simple, thing involves several stages:

Taking measurements
Building a base pattern
Building a specific model based on a pattern

Let's start with a model with an elastic band ..

This model is based on a rectangle. As a rule, the width of the rectangle = the width of the fabric, which is usually 140-150 cm.

The height of the fabric rectangle depends on the desired length of the sundress. We measure the length from the level of the armpits on the figure.

The next step is to measure the area at the top of the fabric, which we will be stitching with an elastic band. Usually, either only the bodice area or the upper part of the sundress to the waist is sewn with an elastic band.

We will use an elastic thread for this process, and here we have two options:

sew the elastic thread in a zig-zag pattern, simply applying it to the seamy side of the fabric (in the process, be sure to stretch the elastic thread to create an assembly)

The sundress is ready)).

What measurements do we need?

half-girth of the thighs

We cut out two rectangles from the fabric with a length = length of a sundress + 4 cm for allowances and a width = half-girth of the hips + an increase in freedom (5-8 cm, for example).

Sundress without straps (no pattern)

Sewing steps:

Sundress trapeze without pattern

We put them in two layers.
Narrow them down a little.

We wear it with a belt))).

Now you need to determine whether the horizontal assembly on a thread will fill the entire part of the sundress to the waist (then we sew this part of the fabric to the waist with an elastic band, the distance between the horizontal lines = 1 cm approximately):

If the elastic thread does not completely fill the upper part of the sundress (as in the photo below), then we sew four lines on top (for a tight fit, since one line will not give it), and we also sew four lines with an elastic band at the waist:

We will get a rectangle assembled with an elastic band. We sew both its sides - it will be either a side seam or a back middle seam of the back.

It remains only to process the lower cut of the sundress.

Tuck 1 cm of fabric onto the wrong side, sew it with a straight stitch, or iron it, then fold it another 1 cm and sew it from the front side of the fabric. This will result in processing the cut with a double hem.

The sundress is ready)).

Sundress without a pattern with a tie around the neck

Now let's look at another simple and interesting model.

it dress with a tie around the neck... What does it consist of? From two rectangles, sewn on the sides, and connected at the neck with a ribbon, the ribbon is tied to a bow.

What measurements do we need?

  • sundress length (measured from the level of the base of the neck on the front)
  • half-girth of the thighs
  • the distance from the point of the base of the neck (where the neck and shoulder join - I write in simple language, in more detail) and the point in the middle of the armpit (raise the hand and measure to the point where the side seam will begin).

We cut out two rectangles from the fabric with a length = length of a sundress + 4 cm for allowances and a width = half-girth of the hips + an increase in freedom (5-8 cm, for example).

We retreat from the upper horizontal on the sides 10 cm, from this point to the side we set aside the distance that we measured (from the neck to the armpit), cut off the resulting angle (as in the picture below on the left). We make a drawstring along the upper cut, bending the fabric to the wrong side.

This is how we process both rectangles.

Sew the rectangles on the sides.

We make a long ribbon and thread it into the drawstring. We sew the bottom of the product.

Sundress without straps (no pattern)

At the heart of this sundress is also a rectangle, the width of which is slightly larger than the girth of the hips. Length = the desired length of the sundress.

Sewing steps:

  1. Sew the side slices of the rectangle. The side seam will be one, or it will be the middle back seam.
  2. We measure the girth over the chest under the arms with an elastic band, cut off the desired length of the elastic.
  3. Sew an elastic band into the upper cut of the dress.
  4. We cut out a strip for a ruffle (assembly) with a height of 12 cm and a length = girth under the bust, multiply by 1.5.
  5. Sew the assembly evenly to the upper cut of the dress.
  6. If desired, sew the elastic to the waist.
  7. If desired, the sundress can be slightly fitted.
  8. We process the bottom cut with a hem.

The sundress is ready! We wear with a belt.

Sundress trapeze without pattern

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Cut out two squares with sides 75 cm.
  2. We put them in two layers.
  3. Narrow them down a little.
  4. We measure the distance between the points on the shoulders. Place a dot in the center of the fabric. Set aside half of the measured distance from the center. We put points A and A1.
  5. From point A, we postpone the shoulder width (5-7 cm). Set aside the shoulder width on the other side.
  6. Cut the neck of the desired depth (7-10 cm) between the shoulders.
  7. From points A and A1, cut off a corner on the fabric, drawing this line to the middle of the fabric. You should end up with an inverted trapezoid with the corners cut off, as in the picture below:

We sew these two parts along the dotted lines in the figure (along the side and shoulder seams).

We process the neck and bottom of the product.

We wear it with a belt))).

The sundress is the most popular women's clothing for the summer. It allows you to look feminine even in the sultry heat, it will never be hot in it. At home, you can sew a wide variety of sundresses without having the skills of a professional seamstress. We will tell you how to do this in this article.

Fabric for sundresses

Since a sundress is a purely summer outfit that will be worn under the hot sun, the fabric from which it will be sewn should be light so that the body breathes and does not sweat. Not all fabrics possess such qualities. For sewing a light summer sarafan, it is preferable to choose:

There are a lot of materials that can be used for sewing sundresses, but each of them is special in operation. If before that your sewing skills were limited to sewing on buttons and sewing holes, then for sewing a summer dress, take a fabric easier - cotton or linen, for example. You can, of course, take a risk and take knitwear or viscose, but get ready for the fact that the fabric with a high probability will simply be ruined and the money wasted.

Sundress patterns

Sundresses can be of very different cut, from primitive, which even a teenager can cope with, to complex ones that are unlikely to succumb to a beginner. In this article we will look at very simple patterns from the first option. We offer you a selection of videos where girls sew very simple styles of sundresses.

Sundresses without a pattern

If you are running out of time, and a sundress is desperately needed for an evening walk, do not despair - there is always a way out! For example, why not create a light dress without building complex patterns. As a rule, sewing such a sundress takes no more than half an hour, and the result is amazing.

For example, a version of a sundress is offered, which is cut over a T-shirt, without additional patterns. To sew it, you only need to know the length of the desired sundress. When cutting, remember that if you have large breasts, then the front of the sundress needs to be made longer than the bottom, then when it is worn before, when it lies on the chest, it will not bully. By the way, this year the asymmetrical hem is coming into fashion again, which is very easy to make by cutting out such a sundress. Just draw the line of the back hem to the desired value below the front and wow, the fashionable sundress is ready!

Sundresses of this type are very easy to cut. In fact, this is a simple pipe with an elastic band at the top, and so that the image does not get bored, everything is decorated with an accessory in the form of a belt. First, measure the widest part of your body, this could be your bust, waist, or hips. After that, measure the desired length of the sundress. Let's say that the largest measure turned out to be the hip girth - 96 cm.Add additional width to this measure so that the finished sundress does not fit the hips. How much it will be - you decide whether you want it looser or a little more than the hips. In our case, it will be 10 cm + 2 cm for the seams. In total, the width of the canvas will be 108 cm, and the length 110 (when calculating the length, remember that part of it will go to the belt, as it will shorten the product a little). Cut out a rectangle (in our case, it's almost a square) from the fabric and sew a single seam on a typewriter to make a tube. Sew an elastic band along the top line, which will allow the dress to sit on the chest and not fly off - it can be a continuation of the sundress and look out, or, alternatively, it can be folded down. The final stage will be hemming the bottom. That's all, a light and cute sundress is ready!

The next sundress is sewn so simply that the process itself does not need any comments.

Another version of sundresses that can be cut directly on the fabric is as follows:

Such sundresses can be cut according to your own imagination. Just trust your inner creative nature and go!

Every woman's wardrobe should contain basic clothing models. A sundress dress is exactly the model that is "in the arsenal" of almost every girl. There are many options for sundresses, models are summer and winter, frivolous and business, everyday and festive.

Many are sure that the sundress was invented as an element of the Russian national costume. In fact, clothes similar to the sundress were used as far back as Ancient Egypt.

The sarafan came to Russia around the 16th century, most likely from the Middle East, since the very name of this style is of Persian origin. Initially, sundresses were clothing for the nobility, and, moreover, it was an element of the men's wardrobe. Clothes were sewn from expensive fabrics, so it was inaccessible to the common people. Of course, men's models were not distinguished by excesses, they were not trimmed with frills and ruffles, and were called the harsh word "shushun".

But in the 17th century, sundresses finally and irrevocably "migrated" into the women's wardrobe. Before Peter's reforms, these clothes were in the wardrobe of women of all classes. Of course, noble women wore models made of expensive fabrics and with richer decor, peasant women wore clothes made of homespun linen, but the cut of sundresses was about the same.

During the reign of Tsar Peter, sundresses were brought down to the level of clothing of commoners, while aristocrats were ordered to wear dresses according to European fashion. But in the reign of Catherine, the sundress was again ascended to the Olympus of fashion, however, then the models were sewn on a frame. But on the other hand, French women of fashion of that time began to wear a sundress "a la russe".

The beginning of the 20th century was a time of wars and revolutions, so women forgot about this wardrobe item for a long time. But in the second half of the last century, the sundress returned to fashion and continues there today.

Model Description

What are the fashionable dress sundresses? The most varied. Photos of models will make sure of this.

The main element of any model is straps. They can be of different widths, asymmetrical and criss-crossing, with ruffles and lace.

According to the cut, two types of dresses can be distinguished - one-piece and cut-off at the waist line, which can be overstated, understated or located in a place designated by nature. The model's skirt can have a variety of cut and length.

Models also differ in purpose. The most common option is sundress dresses for the summer. However, many people also like a warm sundress dress, which is worn with a jacket, blouse or turtleneck. These are, as a rule, strict models for the office.

Who should wear it?

This is a universal model that is suitable for women with any type of figure, you just need to choose the right styles.

  • ... Girls with this type of figure are lucky, absolutely all models are suitable for them, but fitted, emphasizing the attractive outlines of the figure will look especially advantageous.
  • ... For girls who do not have a significant difference between the waist and hips, it is recommended to choose models with flounces on a skirt or with a basque when it comes to office models.

  • ... To balance the heavy bottom, girls with a pear-shaped figure should choose sundresses with voluminous straps decorated with frills.
  • ... Loose sundresses with a high waistline are ideal for ladies with this type of figure, as well as expectant mothers.

Sundresses are perfect for obese women. They should choose dresses with vertical lines in the form of a pattern, rows of buttons or zippers. You can wear both a long dress and a dress just above the knee. It is preferable to choose dresses with a deep neckline in order to be able to demonstrate the most advantageous part of the figure.

You need to avoid models with a large pattern, as well as tight things. But you shouldn't dress up in dark robes either. Sundresses of various pastel colors and a semi-adjacent silhouette are perfect for full.

Summer long models

Summer sundress dresses are very popular. They can have a variety of styles, but many associate models made of chiffon or other flowing fabrics with a floor-length skirt with summer vacations.

And with what to wear such models? Sandals or sandals are selected for long, light sundresses. If a girl does not recognize shoes without a heel, then it is better to choose a model with a wedge heel.

On a cool summer evening, you can complement the outfit with a short denim jacket, the combination of flowing chiffon and rough denim looks stylish.

It is worth picking up simple but eye-catching jewelry for the dress. Country-style jewelry will look perfect. The outfit will be complemented by a wide-brimmed hat and a soft-shaped bag.

Summer dress sundress

Such models can be worn not only in hot summer, but also in warm autumn. Its difference is the presence of a small sleeve formed by an elongated shoulder line. Dress length can vary from mid-thigh to floor. Such dresses are sewn from linen, cotton, mixed fabrics, silk. Plain dyed or printed fabrics can be used.

This type of dress usually requires high heels. However, you can create successful bows with flat shoes.

Dresses are complemented with short jackets or boleros. When creating evening bows, you should pay attention to stoles, silk scarves and openwork shawls.

An interesting model is a summer knitted sundress dress, cotton threads are used for its manufacture. Knitted sundresses can be openwork, then they are worn on a cover.

Denim sundress

Denim dress-sundress deserves special attention. Denim sundresses can be very diverse. Denim is used for both loose leisure models and fitted dresses that can be worn in the city. Bare shoulders in a dress made of rough fabric especially emphasize the grace of the neck and the tenderness of the skin. To complement the look, based on a long, loose denim sundress, you should use hippie-style jewelry and woven sandals.

Short fitted sundresses can be combined with shoes with heels, jackets and jackets made of textiles or the same denim. Chains in several rows and wide bracelets will complement the bow.

Office option

An office sundress dress is a basic model, along with a classic suit. The cut of the dress can be straight or fitted; denser fabrics are used for sewing. The choice is determined by the season. So for sewing models for the fall-winter season, woolen fabrics, knitted fabric based on cashmere fiber are used (this is a fairly dense material that keeps its shape well). For the spring-summer season, blended fabrics are used - dense cotton with lycra, silk, viscose fibers.

Models of business sundresses can be like this :

  • Case... The bodice of such a dress is practically closed, it can be with a rectangular neckline or a triangle-shaped neckline. The length usually covers the knee, with a zipper located in the side or back seam. This version of the dress is perfect for girls with a good figure.

  • Tunic... This model expands from the shoulder line, draperies can be made on the bodice, therefore jersey or other types of well-draped fabrics are used for sewing. Such a model is suitable for girls with a non-ideal figure, it perfectly masks both excess thinness and fullness.

  • Straps... Such a model is a straight skirt, to which a detail is sewn, which, like a corset, fits the waist. For sewing such a sundress, fabrics with the addition of elastic fibers are used. It is perfect for ladies with hourglass shapes.

The colors of office models should be restrained. Monochrome fabrics are used, as well as fabrics in a cage, striped, and small polka dots.

When working in an office, be sure to adhere to a business style, as required by the corporate rules of many companies, in order to maintain the company's image. Therefore, it will be useful for craftswomen who sew clothes for themselves and to order. The simplest version of such a wardrobe item is a sheath dress, for which the usual pattern of a fitted or straight silhouette is used.

The entire creation process can be divided into several main stages, overcoming which, you will create an excellent strict outfit.

Stage one: taking measurements

In order for the pattern of sundresses for the office to fit in size, it must be built on the basis of your own measurements. This is the beauty of individual tailoring, because the things that are sold on the market and in the store are sewn according to generally accepted standard volumes. And they, as you know, do not always coincide with real forms. That is why girls have to try on a huge number of dresses in order to choose the one that fits perfectly on the figure.

So, to build a template, you need the following measurements:

  • girth of the chest, waist, hips, neck;
  • back width;
  • solution of breast darts;
  • shoulder width;
  • chest height;
  • back and front length to the waist.

Stage two: building a drawing of the workpiece

The pattern of a warm sundress for the office and the summer version are built identically, the only difference is in the allowance for free fitting. For a summer product, add 1 cm to the measurement, and for a warm one - 2 cm.

The drawing is developed on the basis of a quadrangle with sides corresponding to 1/2 of the chest volume + an increase in the length of the product. Horizontally in the drawing, you should immediately note the height of the chest, waist, hips and draw lines that form an auxiliary grid.

At this stage, the main pattern of sundresses for the office is ready. It can already be used for sewing products from thick and thin fabrics.

Modeling and design

The workpiece can be modified by adding raised seams. To do this, the pattern of sundresses for the office is drawn in accordance with the desired lines, and then cut into elements. In this way, you can mark the boundaries for combining different colors of the fabric, or simply make the seams and stitch them beautifully.

Stage three: cutting and assembly

How to tailor summer and office? The pattern should be built taking into account the allowance for a free fit, which is added not only along the chest line, but also along the hips and waist. Otherwise, the product will hinder movement. The only exception can be fabric with elastane or knitwear. The rest of the cut is standard. Along the contour of the parts, an allowance is made for processing the seams: along the hem - 4 cm, and along the seams - 1 cm. If the fabric is very loose, then the allowance can be increased.

To make the product easy to put on, it is better to make it with a zipper. To do this, you can use a tractor or secret lock 75 cm long. It should be inserted into the middle seam of the back, where you can also make a cut for a comfortable step. You can also make it tapered downward for the office. In this case, the patterns are narrowed along the side seam from the thigh line to the hem by about 5 cm.

Stage four: decoration

A completely simple blank in combination with a calm fabric will make the product austere, and in order to improve the image somewhat, it needs to be properly decorated. For example, embroider it at the neck with discreet stones to match the main fabric, or make a lace or contrasting collar. A thin belt at the waist will also look good, for which belt loops must be made. Such a product can be worn with a thin mesh under the throat or a solid-color tight knitted T-shirt.

The simpler the silhouette, the richer you can choose the material. And it's not about color at all, but about texture. Embossed fabric weaving is ideal for a calm sundress. The product will look original with embroidery along the material field. Such a sundress will not need to be decorated and complemented with vertical seams with trim. The simplest pattern of a sundress for the office is suitable here.

"Burda" is one of the sewing magazines in which such techniques are often used with a minimum of details and maximum saturation of the fabric. It is these wardrobe items that, as a rule, become the most beloved, because there is nothing superfluous in them.
