Diet for GW at 6 months. Entering the first complementary foods if the baby is bottle-fed

The demand for food in a baby who is 6 months old is increasing literally before our eyes. The little ones who are breastfed are already receiving their first complementary foods, and the artificial ones have even gotten used to it and need more variety. In the first case, there is no urgent need to keep track of how much and what the baby needs, he should still receive the main components from mother's milk.

In the second, you will have to try hard so that the child is provided with everything necessary and at the same time does not suffer from colic, gas, regurgitation and other unpleasant consequences of an improperly organized eating process.

How often and when to feed?

Children at the age of 6 months are already able to withstand fairly long breaks between meals, and at night there is no need to feed at all. If the baby develops according to plan, then at six months he should receive food about 5-6 times a day. Specialists have even developed an approximate diet for babies. But do not forget about the individual characteristics of babies, which can make minor adjustments to the routine:

  • First meal at 7:30.
  • The second one is at 11:00 am.
  • The third - at 15.00.
  • Fourth - at 17.00.

Tip: It is only useful for adults not to eat at night. A child at the age of 6 months, having a hearty dinner before going to bed, will sleep soundly and calmly until morning, without needing nightly “snacks”. The main thing is to understand how much a baby can eat so that his stomach is not full. Otherwise, he will quickly fall asleep, but may wake up from colic.

  • Fifth - at 19.00.
  • Sixth - at 21.00.

The duration of feeding is individual for each baby. If one child can easily cope with a plate of mashed potatoes, cookies and fruit dessert in 20-30 minutes, then another is able to stretch a meal consisting of porridge for an hour. Don't push the baby. Eating should be associated with him only with positive emotions.

Food volumes optimal for a six-month-old baby

Despite the fact that today there are several approaches to calculating the daily volume of food intake by a child under the age of one year (based on the weight or height of the baby, his calorie needs), the simplest of the formulas is most often used. According to her, a child aged 6 months and older should eat food per day, in the amount of 1/9 to 1/8 of his weight. Based on how much macronutrients, vitamins, minerals and fiber will be, nutritionists derive the following important numbers:

  • The daily volume of food should be about a liter and this figure does not depend on the type of feeding of the baby.
  • At 6 months, the child should be given at least 500 ml of breast milk or 600 ml of an adapted formula. For an infant on a mixed type of nutrition, the proportions of both are selected individually.
  • About 150 ml will fall on porridge per day.
  • For vegetable puree, also no more than 150 ml.
  • Fruit puree will be 50-60 ml.
  • Meat puree - only 30 ml.
  • Another 60 ml for juice and 40 ml for cottage cheese.
  • Additionally, a baby at 6 months should receive about a quarter of an egg yolk.

Substances that should be present in the diet of a 6-month-old baby

A child at the age of 6 months, taking into account all the features of development, should receive about 115 calories per day. And you need to cover this indicator by eating cereals, meat, vegetable or fruit purees. No sweets, even homemade from natural products. In addition, the following points must be taken into account:

  • First of all, you need to pay attention to how much protein the baby consumes. The need for a baby at the age of 6 months exceeds the same norm for an adult by about two times. In general, this macronutrient should account for at least 80% of an infant's diet. It is he who is the key to the normal physical and mental development of the little man. The main source of the component for the baby is mother's milk, for the artificial - an adapted mixture. Additionally, as complementary foods are introduced, the baby should start eating cottage cheese, turkey or rabbit puree.
  • Carbohydrates and fats are the main sources of energy, but if they are consumed excessively, the child will begin to experience discomfort due to the constant fermentation of food in the intestines. And the abundance of fat is also a prerequisite for the development of diseases of the digestive system. To get the right carbohydrates, the baby must eat cereal. It can be instant, but it is better if the child eats a product prepared according to all the rules. The source of fats is breast milk, adapted mixtures, egg yolk.
  • At 6 months, we begin to pay special attention to the drinking regimen of the little one. Vegetable and fruit purees, breast milk, soups are not always able to block the baby's need for liquid. Artificers must be given baby water, herbal teas, fruit juices.

Before making any adjustments to your baby's usual diet, it is better to consult a pediatrician. The specialist will assess the speed and correctness of the development of the child, give useful advice.

Approximate options for the menu of a six-month-old child

You need not only to know how much the baby should eat in one meal or per day, but also how to properly combine dishes, combine and alternate components. As a basis for compiling the menu, you can take one of the following options for the daily diet:

Option 1:

  • First feeding. Milk formula or mother's milk in a volume of 200 ml.
  • Second feeding. Porridge cooked on water - 150 ml, supplementary feeding in the form of breast milk or mixture - 100 ml (in general, the amount of supplementary feeding depends on how much the baby ate the main dish).
  • Third feeding. Vegetable puree - 100 ml with a small amount of meat - 20 g. A quarter cup of fruit juice.
  • Fourth feeding. Children's cookies in the amount of a couple of pieces with two tablespoons of a suitable fermented milk drink.
  • Fifth feeding. Not more than 20 g of cottage cheese, 40 ml of fruit puree and 200 ml of an adapted formula or mother's milk.
  • Sixth feeding. Breast milk or mixture in a volume of 150-200 ml.

Option 2:

  • First feeding. Adapted formula or mother's milk - 200 ml.
  • Second feeding. Two tablespoons of fruit puree or a tablespoon of juice. Depending on how much the baby ate, you can supplement it with breast milk or formula.
  • Third feeding. Chicken broth - 100 ml with grated meat, 100 ml vegetable puree, 50 ml fruit puree.
  • Fourth feeding. Porridge boiled in milk - 150 ml, jelly - 100 ml.
  • Fifth feeding. Adapted formula or mother's milk - 200 ml.

After some time, you can begin to gradually introduce butter into cereals, and vegetable oil into vegetables. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the fat content of dishes will increase, albeit slightly. Parents during such experiments should monitor the condition of the baby even more carefully than usual.

By the age of 6 months, the child becomes quite active, observes with interest what adults take from the plate and put in their mouths, the first teeth have already appeared, and the weight has doubled after birth. Everything indicates that it is time to introduce complementary foods, acquaintance with adult food, adapted to the needs of the baby. Having decided on the products with which the tasting will begin, experienced mothers make up the child's menu at 6 months. Let's follow their example.

About power mode

The diet of a child at 6 months consists of 5 feedings (not counting the nightly ones). Breast milk is taken as the basis, however, at the second feeding, before the "milk" afternoon snack, a new product is introduced in a small portion, usually vegetables. Preference is given to the first half of the day, since in case of allergic reactions they are easier to deal with during the day than at night. The portion gradually increases, and after three weeks you can completely replace one feeding with complementary foods in the amount of 140 grams.

It is advisable for an artificial person to introduce complementary foods at the 5th month of life, which means that by his half year he already knows the taste of some products. What does the diet of six-month-old children consist of?

Vegetables

The first vegetables for the sample are zucchini, cauliflower, potatoes, onions, beets, pumpkins and carrots are introduced a little later.

Separately, I would like to say about the pumpkin, which contains vitamin D, E, group B, iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium. Its use serves as a prevention of anemia and rickets. Due to the high content of pectin and fiber, there are no problems with constipation.

Vegetables are boiled or steamed, after which they are whipped to a puree state. Although the first teeth appeared in the crumbs, they are still not enough to switch to solid food, so almost all food is pureed at the 6th month.

Vegetable puree can be very diverse

You can feed your child first courses, meaning soups and borscht. Only they are prepared taking into account the child's body: without frying, without salt or with its minimum amount. Such dishes are served after grinding with a blender as soup-puree. Juices from vegetables, such as carrot and pumpkin, will also appeal to the crumbs.

Kashi

We begin to give cereals one-component, gluten-free. Such species include buckwheat, rice and corn porridge. Those that are commercially available are well prepared for use, crushed to the right size. You can make your own porridge base by grinding whole grains in a blender. Choose dairy-free types first, later you can try on milk, but this will not happen before 8 months.

Buckwheat porridge is considered an ideal option for the first complementary foods, as it is very nutritious, easy to digest, contains many vitamins, rich in iron and copper, and contributes to the accumulation of vitamin C in the body.

Artificers who tried porridge last month can diversify the dish by adding grated pieces of fruit: apple, peach. Multi-component porridges are also suitable. By the end of the 6th month, the hard-boiled yolk can be carefully introduced. Stop for the first time tasting 1/8 of its volume.

Dairy products

Some include cottage cheese (9%) and kefir 2.5% in the menu of a 6-month-old baby of medium fat content. These are useful products, and their reception is quite justified. Improves intestinal microflora, peristalsis. It is good if it is possible to order such products in the children's dairy kitchen. So you get the freshest food, free of preservatives. Dairy products are usually given in the evening.

fruit purees

Fruit is served at the children's table in the morning. Apple, banana, pear - everything is crushed to a puree state or bought in a store ready-made, in jars.

Banana is a suitable product for the first complementary foods

What drink?

In addition to water and breast milk, decoctions of wild rose, chamomile, dill can be used as a drink. Compote from fresh fruits, as well as from dried fruits, can be given from 6 months. Tea in the form in which adults drink it is not yet drinkable for kids, you can use instant granulated teas made specifically for children.

We compose the menu

It is advisable to adhere to a 5-time feeding regimen and eat at about the same time. A full serving is about 150-200 gr. First, the child is offered complementary foods, after which the baby is supplemented with mother's milk or an adapted mixture. An example menu looks like this:

Depending on what stage you are at with complementary foods, servings will vary in quantity and variety. At the very beginning, it is enough to try 1 new product a day.

Filling up the cookbook

Confused about how to feed their child so that it is tasty and healthy at the same time, mothers are looking for recipes on the Internet and in grandmother's cookbooks. We bring to your attention a few of them.

The baby is growing, and every month his body's need for nutrients increases. What should be the proper nutrition of a child at 6 months?

Food types. What to choose?

Currently, two methods of introducing complementary foods are popular:

Pediatric

It is of two types:

  • Designed in accordance with the recommendations of the WHO (World Health Organization). Today it is the most popular and most rational in terms of child physiology. Recommended from 6 months.
  • Developed taking into account the recommendations of the Ministry of Health. It is similar to the method that the WHO proposes, however, the dates are shifted here: from 6 months it is introduced to babies who are breastfed, and to artificial ones - already from 4 months.

Pedagogical complementary food

It is popular due to its ease: there is no need to cook specifically for the child, since the baby receives food from the adult menu in microdoses. However, this method can only take place with natural feeding. It should also be borne in mind that the parent's table should consist exclusively of healthy food. If mom and dad eat only fried potatoes, like spicy and salty dishes such as canned cucumbers and smoked fish, pedagogical complementary foods are impossible.

Maria, mother of 9-month-old Alina: “I heard a lot about how good pedagogical complementary foods are, so I decided to feed them myself. She gave meat and potatoes the size of a match head. But the breast milk was too thin, and the baby did not gain weight at all in a month! Such complementary foods did not suit us, we had to catch up with our peers on cereals.

It should be borne in mind that the ideal formula for the introduction of complementary foods has not yet been identified. However, according to WHO, pediatric complementary foods are considered the most rational: it takes into account physiological factors to a greater extent.

Complementary foods are not a substitute for breastfeeding, but an addition to it. His goal is not to “feed”, but to gradually introduce the baby’s gastrointestinal tract to the food that he will have to eat in the future.

How to feed correctly?

6 months is the period when the child is already 24 weeks old. Some mothers mistakenly believe that the beginning of the sixth month is the time to introduce complementary foods. But in fact, by this date, the baby is still only 20 weeks old, and this is too early to switch to adult food.

What you need to know:

  • You need to feed with a spoon before giving milk (breast or artificial). Food must be warm.
  • Starting complementary foods, the first days should be introduced no more than half a spoonful of a new product, gradually, over 10 days, increasing the volume to the required rate. The subsequent introduction of other products can be reduced to 5-7 days. This interval between doses is necessary in order to be able to control the reaction of the child's body to a new product. You need to monitor not only skin rashes, but also the baby's stool.
  • Monocomponent products should be introduced into the child's diet first.
  • It is better to give the product for the first time before lunch. It is not so much the diet that is important here, but the child's reaction to new food. Do not give the same new type of complementary foods twice a day.
  • If the baby is sick or vaccinations are coming, then the day of the introduction of complementary foods should be postponed. The same rule applies to every product introduced for the first time.

You need to start introducing complementary foods with vegetable purees or cereals. From vegetables, zucchini, cabbage and potatoes are best suited as the least allergenic foods. And it is better to introduce fruit puree later, because after tasting sweets, children can then refuse vegetables and cereals.

If the baby has a tendency to constipation, irregular stools, and weight is more than normal, then vegetable puree should be preferred. You can choose from both jar-packed and home-cooked meals.

In the event that the crumbs are diagnosed with a lack of weight, the likelihood of developing anemia, then cereals should be the first complementary foods. If the baby is prone to allergies, it is better to start with dairy-free and gluten-free cereals (rice, buckwheat, corn).

Irina, Serezha's mother, 1.5 years old: “Seryozha was born prematurely, he gained weight poorly, albeit on breast milk. From 5 months they began to introduce cereals, as advised by the pediatrician. But there were problems with the stool: constipation. I had to switch to vegetables, and cereals were postponed until 9 months.

Meat is an important part of a child's diet and should be introduced about 8-9 weeks after vegetables. With a standard complementary feeding schedule from 6 months, meat can be introduced into the diet at 8-8.5 months. If the baby receives complementary foods from 4 months, then you can give meat to taste by the middle of the 6th month. Start with rabbit and turkey.

Soups can be introduced into the child's diet only after he has become acquainted with the individual ingredients of this dish. It is best if they contain only vegetables, and if meat is present, then you should choose a dietary one: rabbit, turkey. Fish in the child's menu should be included only after a year: the risk of allergies is too great.

Type of primary feeding and complementary foods

Depending on what type of feeding the baby is on, the pattern of introducing complementary foods may vary slightly.

For artificial children, pediatricians recommend using partially free feeding. With this method, certain hours are added to the daily routine for feeding the crumbs. The nutrition of a 6-month-old breastfed baby differs from the menu of artificial babies in that complementary foods are introduced later. There is no need to start it with cereal cereals if the mother eats fully, and the child does not lag behind in physical indicators.

Today, however, not all pediatricians share this view: “This misconception about the earlier introduction of complementary foods to artificial children dates back to the old days, when formulas consisted of diluted cow's milk,” says Dr. Komarovsky. - Today, the composition of milk mixtures is as close as possible to breast milk. Therefore, the type of main feeding of the child does not really matter for the start of complementary feeding.”

With the beginning of the introduction of complementary foods, the children's daily routine changes: meals become 5 meals a day.

If the child stubbornly refuses to accept a new dish, do not immediately move on to another product. You can offer him this product up to ten more times. After all, it is very important to form the taste habits of the baby now. In the future, this will greatly facilitate his stay in a kindergarten or school: there, as a rule, the menu includes “tasteless”, but healthy products.

Table of the feeding regimen and the menu of the child at 6 months: menu (approximate)

The table contains an approximate feeding scheme, calculated on the fact that the daily nutrition of a 6-month-old formula-fed child includes complementary foods introduced from 4 months:

Feeding time Products Food volume
feeding 1st (morning, 6:00) milk mixture180 - 200 ml
180-200 ml
2nd feeding (morning, 10:00) rice or buckwheat porridge (milk)
fruit puree (industrial or home-made)
120-150 g, 60 g
3rd feeding (morning, 14:00) vegetable puree
grated egg yolk with milk (egg is given a maximum of 3 times a week!)
juice (preferably homemade fruit or vegetable)
about 150 g
1/4
about 30 ml
4th feeding (morning, 18:00) milk formula
cottage cheese for children (maximum 3 times a week)
biscuits (can be dissolved in milk)
150 ml
40 g
3 g
5th feeding (morning, 22:00) mixture (milk or sour milk) up to 200 ml

If the child is fed with mother's milk, then in the morning the second feeding includes porridge without milk, and the third - puree (vegetable or fruit) plus supplementary feeding with milk; the rest of the meals are breast milk.

The nutrition of a child at 6 months on mixed feeding is close to the diet of an infant, only daily intakes of mother's milk are replaced, if necessary, with milk formulas.

Recipes for a six-month-old baby

Self-preparation of food for the baby gives parents confidence that he receives quality food. Good helpers in this matter will be a double boiler, slow cooker and blender.

It is important to remember that the child must be familiar with each component of the dish if it consists of several ingredients.

This applies even to such “simple” products as milk, olive oil, etc.

Vegetables:

1. Cauliflower in a slow cooker

Washed cabbage (100 grams) put on the multicooker grate. Steam for 15 minutes. Next, grind the product with a blender, cool.

2.pumpkin puree

Pumpkin pulp (the volume depends on how much the baby eats) cut into cubes and place on the steamer grate. Cook in the "steam" mode for 20 minutes, chop with a blender.

3.carrot puree

Peel the carrots, cut into slices and place in a double boiler for 20 minutes (you can simply boil in a saucepan), cook until the fibers are completely softened. Next, chop the carrots with a blender.

4.Carrot puree with milk

One large carrot; milk - 4 tbsp. spoons; a few drops of oil (the best option is olive oil).

Grind boiled carrots in a blender, add hot milk. Boil for a couple of minutes over low heat, add oil.

5.Mashed potatoes

Soak peeled potatoes in water to remove starch (12-24 hours). Rub the boiled potatoes through a sieve, pour in the milk to the desired consistency, boil for a couple of minutes.

6.Assorted vegetables (zucchini, carrots, potatoes)

100 g zucchini pulp, half a medium carrot, 1 potato, 1 teaspoon olive oil, half a glass of water.

Peeled vegetables cut into cubes and put in a double boiler bowl. Cook 20 minutes. Transfer them to a blender bowl, add boiled water and oil, chop.

Fruit:

1.Applesauce

An apple (sour-sweet and sour, green) is scalded with boiling water and the peel is removed. Cut into pieces, remove the seeds. Grate or grind in a blender. Puree should be prepared immediately before eating, otherwise it will darken.

2.Stewed apple puree

Grate the washed and peeled apple and, adding a couple of tablespoons of water, simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.

3.Apple-carrot puree

Peel apple and carrot (one at a time), grind in a blender. Add a spoonful of water and boil for a minute or two.

4.Prunes puree

Pour boiling water over prunes and leave under a closed lid for three to four hours. Rub the steamed prunes through a fine-grained sieve, add a spoonful of water in which it was infused, and boil for a minute.

5.Dried apricot puree

Rinse a good clean dried apricots, soak in boiling water for several hours. Boil in the same water for 7-10 minutes. Drain the water, and rub the dried fruits through a fine-mesh sieve or grind with a blender.

Kashi

1.Dairy-free rice porridge

Grind rice in a coffee grinder. Pour rice flour into boiled water (3 tablespoons per glass of water). Stirring constantly, cook for 10 minutes.

2.Corn porridge (dairy-free)

Corn grits - 3 tablespoons; glass of water.

Pour the cereal into boiling water and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, then reduce the fire to a minimum and cook until the cereal is completely softened (up to 30 minutes). Grind the finished porridge to a puree consistency in a blender, pour into an enameled bowl and let it boil.

3.Milk porridge (from buckwheat, rice or oatmeal)

Rinse the cereal until clear water and place in a saucepan, filling with water 2 fingers above the cereal. Cook on low heat until done. Grind the porridge through a fine-mesh sieve or chop in a blender. Pour hot milk to the desired consistency and boil for a few minutes, you can add a little butter.

Meat

1.Carrot and meat puree

100 g turkey (rabbit, chicken); 1 carrot, 80 g milk.

Meat cut into cubes and boil until tender. Boil the carrots separately. Grind the products with a blender, transfer to a saucepan, pour in the milk. Bring to a boil over low heat, cool.

2.Meat with rice

Boil meat and rice (in water) separately. Twist the meat in a meat grinder, mix with rice and puree the mixture with a blender. Put the mixture in a saucepan, pour milk and bring to a boil, cool.

Soups

1.Fruit and vegetable soup (in a slow cooker)

2 apples, 1 carrot, water - one and a half glasses.

Cut carrot into slices, apple into slices. Put in a slow cooker, pour water. On the "stew" mode, cook for about 30 minutes. Grind the cooled soup with a blender.

2.Pumpkin puree soup

A small piece of pumpkin (about 100 g), carrots (1 pc.), Quail egg yolk, milk 150 ml, salt (a small pinch), butter (a piece of 1 by 1 cm).

Cut the pumpkin and carrot into pieces and boil until fully cooked. Grind with a blender, pour in milk, add butter. Boil.

Juices

1.Apple

Peel a juicy apple, rub it on a medium grater (it is better to use a plastic one to prevent oxidation). Squeeze through gauze. Can be diluted with boiled water.

2.Pumpkin juice with apple

Cut the pumpkin pulp into slices, an apple without peel and seeds into slices. Make juice in a juicer. You can grate and squeeze through gauze (more time-consuming process).

At the age of six months, the child begins a transitional period, foreshadowing an adult diet, when the menu consists of breakfast, lunch and dinner. During this period, the baby needs to introduce complementary foods, starting with fruit or vegetable purees, dairy-free cereals. A new dish should be offered in small portions - 0.25-0.5 teaspoons. Further, its volume can be increased to the volume of a full-fledged lunch or breakfast, that is, up to 150 grams. After that, complementary foods can be replaced with other meals. It is better to give complementary foods before breastfeeding, while the baby is hungry.

A 6 month old baby's diet might look like this:
- 6:00 first feeding: breast milk;
- 10:00 second feeding: fruit puree, breast milk as a supplement;
- 14:00 third feeding: porridge or vegetable puree;
- 18:00 fourth feeding: breast milk and fruit puree (up to 30 grams);
- 22:00 fifth feeding: breast milk.

Feeding time for each baby can be individual. However, it is worth considering that a gap of 3.5-4 hours should be made between meals, so that the baby gradually gets used to the adult diet.

The diet of a 6-month-old formula-fed baby

Formula-fed babies are introduced to complementary foods much earlier - from 4 or 5 months, depending on the recommendations of the pediatrician, since the nutrients that are necessary for the full functioning of the body are not enough in the mixture. By six months, usually the child is already familiar with a variety of fruit and vegetable purees, dairy-free and butter and vegetable oils, yolks, juices, cottage cheese and cookies.

Diet 6 - formula-fed:
- 6:00 first feeding: adapted mixture (milk or sour milk) or kefir;
- 10:00 three meals: milk porridge with butter, fruit puree;
- 14:00 third feeding: vegetable soup in meat or vegetable broth, vegetable puree with vegetable oil, ½ egg yolk, fruit juice;
- 18:00 fourth feeding: milk formula or kefir, cottage cheese, biscuits, fruit juice;
- 22:00 fifth feeding: milk formula or kefir.

Gradually, dairy products in the diet of a formula-fed baby are being replaced by fruit, meat and vegetable dishes. Feeding artificial children must be done at intervals between meals of four hours. Between main meals, you should not give any snacks, which will allow the child to maintain an appetite.

Complementary foods are food that is prescribed to a child as he grows up and achieves certain physiological indicators. Complementary foods are used as a supplement to the main diet - breast milk or an adapted milk formula, whose nutritional value no longer fully satisfies the needs of a developing organism.

It is in the first year of a baby's life that his immunity is formed, which depends mainly on proper nutrition. Well-organized complementary foods are the main assistant in this matter.

What to feed a baby at 6 months

Experts say that at six months, any child is ready for complementary foods. This age is considered ideal for the introduction of foods other than the main diet. Although many parents start offering fruit juices, apples and purees to their babies as early as three months, it is best to follow the recommendations of pediatricians and do not give the child anything extra until the age of 6 months.

Depending on the type of basic nutrition of the baby (natural feeding, mixed or artificial), the timing of the first sample of unfamiliar products should be set.

Artificial babies should be offered all new foods two weeks earlier than breastfed babies. The mixed type of food suggests intermediate dates, but they can always be shifted in favor of any other type.

So, where to start complementary foods at 6 months?

  • As a rule, vegetable purees are chosen as the first new product.
  • Formula-fed babies are sometimes advised to start with cereals, but only if they are gaining little weight and look thin.

Any unknown food should be started with 1 teaspoon and gradually brought to the amount necessary for saturation. After about 2 weeks, the new product (vegetable puree) should completely replace one feeding with the main meal (milk or formula).

For starters, you can give a try to the crumbs:

  1. or vegetable marrow, these products contain a huge amount of calcium and phosphorus.
  2. It contains a lot of betacarotene, which helps digestion.

Carrots are also rich in vitamins, but when unripe, they can cause an allergic reaction. Eggplants, spinach, legumes, beets and tomatoes should be moved to the following months, as they will only harm the weak stomach.

To any vegetable puree, you need to add a few drops of vegetable oil so that the child's body begins to gradually get used to this product.

What to feed a baby at 7 months

  • For children who are breastfed, 7 months is the time of the first test of cereal porridge.

For a baby on artificial mixtures, this type of food is best offered a little earlier: immediately after he has mastered vegetable purees.

The consistency of cereals in the first four to five days should be very liquid, gradually it can be brought to the semi-solid state that is familiar to us.

The best cereals to start weaning:

  • buckwheat,
  • oatmeal

Probably, many will be surprised that the list does not include the beloved semolina porridge, which is so easy to prepare. The fact is that the substances contained in the semolina can cause allergies or indigestion in a child. Therefore, it is better to postpone this porridge until a more mature age.

The number of ingredients for making porridge:

1 teaspoon of cereal, 80 ml of milk (for breastfed children - expressed mother's milk, for artificial children - adapted milk mixture), 20 ml of water.

Most babies refuse to eat unleavened cereals, so pediatricians are allowed to add a little sugar. They should not be abused.

Cooking method:

  1. Grind the grits in a coffee grinder (or on a special grinder), add water to it and mix thoroughly;
  2. bring milk or diluted milk mixture to a boil and slowly pour in the cereal with water;
  3. stirring constantly, cook for 3 minutes (rice porridge - 5 minutes).

To offer the child, again, at first you need only 1-2 spoons. The best time to sample porridge is in the morning, when the second feeding of the main meal usually takes place (between 9 and 11 hours). Gradually increasing the portion, it is necessary to bring the amount of porridge to 150 g per day.

If for some reason young parents cannot cook porridge on their own, it can always be purchased at a pharmacy or in the children's departments of supermarkets.

What to feed a baby at 8 months

At this age, pediatricians recommend introducing children to fermented milk products made from cow's milk. In fact, for a child, such food will not be completely unknown, because for the past 8 months he has been quietly eating mother's milk or an adapted mixture. However, cow's milk contains allergens that can create some trouble for new parents. Therefore, it is necessary to give fermented milk products carefully, constantly observing the behavior of the baby.

  • The best fermented milk product to start complementary foods is kefir.

It improves digestion and strengthens the immune system. As a test, you can offer your child one teaspoon of unsweetened kefir. It is necessary to gradually increase the portion during the week.

It should be noted that not every kefir is suitable for crumbs. You need to either cook it yourself from homemade milk, or purchase it in specialized baby food stores. The same applies to cottage cheese and yogurt.

Making kefir is easy: you need to bring the milk to a boil and cool it, then add a spoonful of sourdough (taken from high-quality kefir) and put in a warm place, wait until the milk curdles.

If a, then this kefir should simply be put on fire and boiled a little. After the whey separates, you need to squeeze the cottage cheese and let it cool outside the refrigerator.

So, the child is already eating kefir and is ready to move on to cottage cheese. This product is also first given in the amount of one teaspoon, only it should be diluted with the same kefir.

It turns out that the baby receives both kefir and cottage cheese in acceptable quantities (50 ml of kefir + 80 g of cottage cheese).

  • As early as 8 months, it is time for children to try juices.

In general, fruits should be offered when the first erupted tooth appears. In most children, it appears by 7-8 months, but if it is not there, it does not matter! You can wait a little more, and then still start giving fruit puree, even if the teeth have not come out.

From fruit juices in the early days it is better to give preference to:

  1. apple
  2. or its mixtures (apple + rosehip, apple + pear, etc.).
  3. Then you can move on to juices with pulp (only not to orange, which is one of the strongest allergens).

As always, start with a spoon and gradually increase the volume. Up to a year 100 ml per day - maximum. Please note that such juices are not stored open for more than a day.

Fruit puree can be made from grated boiled or baked apple. Formula-fed babies should be offered a baked apple a little earlier than 8 months (at 6-7 months). The maximum proportion of fruit puree per day is 100 g.

What to feed a baby at 9 months

  • During this period, the child should receive one of the most nutritious foods - meat.

You need to start complementary foods with dietary options:

  • chicken,
  • rabbit,
  • veal.

Moreover, it is necessary to give meat, and not its broth. It is best to cook meat with vegetables: potatoes, onions and carrots.

Mash the potatoes, cool a little and let the child try. Within two days, observe the reaction of the body and, if there are no complications, you can offer the meat itself directly. It should also be given as part of a liquid puree, in such a combination heavy food is digested much easier.

Before serving, be sure to grind the cooked meat with a blender, chopper or meat grinder. You can also cut it into small pieces and sort it into fibers, but a fragile stomach will absorb such food many times longer.

The initial serving of meat is half a teaspoon. The amount increases gradually and up to a year should not exceed 5 teaspoons.

It should also be noted that meat cannot be baked in the oven, fried or stewed. It can only be boiled and steamed.

  • As early as 9 months, babies can be given chicken yolk.

This product contains many vitamins, but it can cause allergies. Therefore, its consumption begins with ¼ teaspoon. Up to a year, it is highly undesirable for a child to eat more than half of the yolk.

Complementary feeding of artificial children and children who are breastfed at 9 months is no different. During this period, as a rule, the amount of vitamins entering the body levels off.

What to feed a 10 month old baby

  • 10 months - the time of the first sample of fish dishes.

This product is distinguished not only by its high phosphorus content, but also by its ideal composition of amino acids. The children's stomach copes with the digestion of fish without problems, but sometimes it can cause an allergic reaction. Therefore, you need to offer fish in the morning, so that later during the day you can monitor the reaction of the body.

Pediatricians say that a child should eat fish at least once a week. However, overdoing it here is also not worth it. It is said once a week - so it should be so.

It is sea white fish, such as cod or hake, that is ideal for a children's diet. But it can also be replaced by river representatives if the crumbs do not have negative reactions.

Fish complementary foods should be started with half a teaspoon, up to a year its amount should increase to 50 g per day. You can serve fish as an independent dish with vegetable puree or porridge, or you can add puree to the soup.

  • Even at 10 months, it is recommended to add a few crackers to vegetable soup or mashed potatoes.

Children of this age are very teething, so a chicken leg (without meat and without protruding small bones) or a bread crust will be useful. They need to put the baby in the hand and make sure that he does not choke.

What to feed a baby at 11 months

At 11 months, the baby's stomach can easily digest those foods that at 6 months were beyond its power.

So, now you can include in the diet of the child such vegetables how:

  • eggplant,
  • tomatoes,
  • beet,
  • legumes,
  • White cabbage.

You can cook them by boiling or steaming, you can also try stewing.

The baby should have received vegetable oil from the age of six months, so by 11 months it does not cause problems.

At this time, parents should introduce their baby to new fruits and fruit purees. For example:

  • with banana
  • or plum.

Although the orange is still banned. Overseas representatives like pineapples and kiwi should not be on the table of a small gourmet: they will bring the body a minimum of benefit and maximum harm.

If a child already has 4 to 6 teeth, then he may well cope with small pieces of food. Therefore, grinding it with a blender or meat grinder now does not make sense. You can simply chop the chicken, and completely replace the mashed meat with a steamed cutlet or meatball.

In vegetable purees and side dishes, you can leave small pieces of potatoes, cabbage or zucchini. But be sure to make sure that the baby does not choke.

  • Any baking at 11 months becomes safe.

The only point: you can not give still warm bread (recently baked) and products that have a long shelf life. Rusks in the soup can now be replaced with breadcrumbs. It should also be offered to a child as an addition to meat or fish.

During cooking, pediatricians allow parents to use herbs and sour cream.

What to feed a 12 month old baby

The baby is one year old. It is assumed that he can sit at the same table with adults and eat their food.

In fact, there are a number of products that the child at this time prohibited:

  • semi-finished products,
  • chocolate,
  • sausages,
  • sausage,
  • fried food,
  • spicy seasonings.

But now the little one is allowed:

  • milk soup with vermicelli,
  • grated vegetables and fruits with sour cream, berries.
  • Various kinds of casseroles and puddings are also introduced into the diet.

At 12 months, babies no longer consider milk or formula as their main food, so they can be eliminated. But the amount of kefir should be increased to 150 ml per day, the whole chicken yolk is now available, and not just half of it. Bread is recommended to be consumed no more than 2 times a day.

And remember that all children are individual and have different food tolerances, as well as different taste preferences. Watch the reaction of the child, and your little one will be healthy.
