Recently, it has become fashionable to write invitations and congratulations on old scrolls. Of course, the old original copy will cost a lot. But it is easy to prepare it at home on your own.   • plain white paper;
  • brewing black leaf tea;
  • a small bowl;
  • shallow dishes in which a sheet of paper will fit;
  • milk of any fat content;
  • instant coffee or cocoa powder;
  • Matchbox;
  • boiling water (water heated to one hundred degrees);
  • iron.

The easiest, but also the longest way

According to the method, you should take several sheets of white paper and lay them out under the direct rays of the scorching sun. Leave for a few days, waiting for the result. After some time, paper sheets, as if from time to time, turn yellow. Of these, it will be quite possible to make a pseudo-rare document or scroll.

Aging paper with welding

Faster results can be achieved if you use the following master class on how to make scrolls at home. This process is very interesting and not complicated at all.

It requires the preparation of a steep tea brew:

  1. Put five tablespoons of tea leaves in a bowl.
  2. Add two hundred milliliters of boiling water, then leave to infuse.
  3. Pour the finished tea leaves into the prepared dishes. We also place the first sheet of paper there (or rub it with a tea bag).

If desired, it can be pre-crumpled a little. This will give you a more realistic effect. Let's take five minutes. And after the specified time, we take out the colored paper. You can dry it naturally or with an iron. If the reader chooses the second method, experts advise putting the sheet on a cloth so as not to stain the ironing board or other surface.

Old paper effect with coffee

Talking about how to make scrolls at home, experienced needlewomen note that instant coffee is ideal for these purposes. It is necessary to work with it in the same way as we described in the previous paragraph. However, you must first prepare the correct solution.

Making it at home is not difficult. You just need to pour boiling water into a small bowl. Then add ten teaspoons of instant coffee there. If this drink is not found at home, cocoa powder can be used. It should be taken in the same proportion as coffee. After that, stir well until the dry component is completely dissolved and then use it to age the paper.

Old paper with milk

If you want to create not just a yellow-red gift scroll, but as similar as possible to a real one, you should use the method described below.

It requires the preparation of milk and a cotton pad or plain cotton wool. After that, take a sheet of paper and put it in front of you. We moisten the disk in milk and begin to slap it on a snow-white surface. And it is important to do this, if possible, unevenly. After completing the described manipulations, leave the paper to dry.

However, the work does not end there. When the future scroll dries well, cover it with a thin cotton cloth and iron it. Also, if desired, you can hold the leaf over the flame. But it is important to prevent fire. Our task is to lightly burn and smoke the paper.

How to give greater historical authenticity?

When you are completely satisfied with the result, you need to carefully roll the prepared paper into a roll. Next, we prepare a red candle, twine or twine, a coin or a signet ring, if any. We need to secure the roll so that it does not unfold ahead of time. Therefore, first we tie it with twine. Then we light a candle and drip wax on the scroll. We wait a few seconds for the mass to grab, and make an imprint on it. The main thing is not to forget to write a congratulation or invitation on your scroll. It is advisable to do this calligraphic handwriting.

We made such an ancient scroll with our 10-year-old son. The scroll was made after an excursion to the Cheese House Cheese Museum, located in the village of Tomarovka, Belgorod Region, and will participate in an exhibition dedicated to this excursion. From the guide, we heard several legends about the origin cheese and learned about the beneficial qualities of cheese products, the stages of their production, and also tasted the most popular varieties of cheese. Why did we make a scroll? To answer this question, a little background: There are about 700 types of cheese in the world. Cheeses are distinguished by the method of curdling milk into rennet and sour-milk cheeses, by the method of production - into hard, soft and pickled cheeses. Separately, there are processed cheeses, which are made by melting natural cheese using special salts. Historians believe that it is quite possible that cheese is as ancient as bread, because as soon as people mastered cattle breeding, curdled milk and cottage cheese appeared, which made it possible to preserve milk, albeit in a modified form, but for a long time. Curdled milk and cottage cheese turned out to be the "parents" of cheese. The art of making cheese was already well known in Ancient Egypt during the time of Pharaoh Tutankhamen, who bequeathed to place barrels of goat cheese in his tomb. My son and I decided that if cheese was found in the tomb, then why there would not be a recipe for this cheese.

There are many varieties of scrolls, but we liked just such a scroll, which is twisted from two sides.

At work, I took two tubes from used fax film, we painted them with brown acrylic.
On office paper, I printed the text of the cheese recipe, after which they mercilessly crumpled this sheet and put it on a plate, where they first dissolved a teaspoon with a hill of coffee in hot water. A minute later, the paper was pulled out and laid to dry on the file. In the open air, the paper will dry for a long time, and if you put it on a battery, the drying process will speed up much.

When the paper dries, we unfold it: if the effect of antiquity does not suit us, then you can take a pinch of instant coffee and sprinkle it (crushing it into small grains in your fingers) in the right places, and then sprinkle a little from the top with a spray bottle and dry again.
After all the manipulations, the paper can be ironed with an iron, putting it between two sheets (so that all the inscriptions and coffee stains do not remain on our iron), or you can leave it wrinkled.

We glue double-sided tape on the upper and lower edges, and glue our tubes to the tape.

But what is a scroll without a name seal?

We tie a string on the upper tube, leave one end long (we will then tie the scroll closed with it), the other short.

We take any household candle and drip wax onto the file, creating a round shape. The wax hardens quickly, but not as much as we would like, so when you see that the wax begins to drain (since there is a lot of it) from the intended circle, put out the candle and wait a bit for the wax to harden ... and then light it again candle and drip again.
When our circle becomes more or less plump, we put our tied whip on it and drip wax on it until it is visible.

Since we have a scroll from Egypt, the seal will be with the pharaoh (I have a beautiful spoon brought from Egypt). You can use a beautiful embossed button or brooch, or make a wooden seal.
We look for the wax to harden a little, but not completely, and press our spoon into it.

We paint over our print with brown acrylic paint on both sides. The paint must be thick, otherwise the wax repels it.

Well, the print is ready! (indistinguishable from sealing wax)

We wrap our recipe in a scroll, and tie it with the long end of the string on top.

And in this form, our scroll will participate in the exhibition.

Thanks to everyone who looked!!!

I hope our MK is useful to someone !!!

Such a scroll can be made as an invitation to any celebration, and as a congratulation (especially for a man), and simply for interior decor.

Often the dacha becomes a place for celebrating birthdays or other significant dates, for example, wedding anniversaries, etc. And since such events are most often attended by “all of their own”, they are held mainly in “wild” conditions. Picnic on the bank of a stream, gatherings in a forested area, etc. In such circumstances, congratulations to the hero of the occasion should be prepared in an appropriate way to suit the environment.

A good option would be a wish list on an old scroll, which was used by the ancient Greek sages, the priests of ancient Egypt, medieval knights and free corsairs of the oceans. It will turn out very unusual, which means your congratulations will be remembered for a long time. But here's how to make an old scroll with your own hands so that it really looks like old thing and had nothing to do with an ordinary sheet of writing paper. There are several simple and reliable ways to do this, which we will now discuss.

First option

In order to artificially age the paper, simply hold it for several days in the sun, or cover both sides with light brown watercolor. However, the result will look like ordinary craft and is unlikely to make the right impression. So it is better to take the advice of professional designers.

Strong tea

Sheet first plain paper for the printer you need to wrinkle. How much let everyone decide for himself ... You can only bend the edges a few times, but you can work very hard. Next, an aging agent is prepared - a few teaspoons of black leaf tea are poured with boiling water - 250 ml, covered with a lid and insisted for 10 minutes. To give the sheet a slight yellowness, 5 teaspoons of tea leaves will be enough. But to achieve the maximum effect, you need to put all 10 in the tea leaves.

The finished infusion is filtered through a strainer, poured into a deep and wide bowl. For this purpose, the trays that photographers used to print photos are ideal. The sheet is loaded there. After 1-2 minutes, the paper is removed and laid out to dry on a flat surface. When the sheet is completely dry, it is ironed.

It remains only to apply the final touch to make it more realistic. To do this, in several places you will have to drop the remaining tea leaves on the sheet. You can also hold the sheet over something hot - a heating pipe, a heater, an electric stove burner, but not over an open flame, otherwise it may catch fire. Although slightly burnt edges can come in handy.

coffee solution

When using this method, it is better to wrinkle the paper properly. To obtain a solution of 5 teaspoons with the top of natural ground coffee, pour 200 ml of boiling water, cover the container with a lid, leave for 10 minutes. It is very important that there is not even the slightest particle of coffee beans in the finished product, so the solution must be filtered several times with breaks of several minutes to settle the liquid.

Then the resulting composition is poured into the bath, the sheet is lowered into it, kept for 5-6 minutes. I note that no more than this, since during prolonged processing the paper begins to fall apart into pieces. Then everything is done in the same way as in the example described above - drying on a flat surface, ironing, creating additional signs of aging.

Milk

In this method, the preliminary preparation of the paper involves not only wrinkling it, but also sanding it so that the liquid penetrates better into the internal structure. Next, milk is applied to the rough surface of the sheet using an ordinary brush.

This should be done on both sides, while it is better to use as much fat milk as possible. Then the sheet is allowed to soak properly, after which it is laid out on a flat surface until it dries completely. By the way, in this case, you can use not only a completely flat base, but with a certain ornament.

If the still wet sheet is properly pressed against the irregularities, then their outlines will be transferred to the paper, due to which an additional effect will be created. After the paper dries, it is passed over it several times with a hot iron - until brownish spots appear.

Zelenka

The paper is also pre-crumpled to give the final product more realism. To prepare a working solution, a few drops of brilliant green are diluted in 200 ml of cold water: from 5 - if they want only a small effect, up to 10 - if a very old artifact is needed.

The resulting liquid is poured into the bath, while trying to prevent strong mixing so that the coloring solution lies on the paper with beautiful stains. The sheets are immersed in a bath for a very short period of time, then sent to dry, after which they are passed over the surface with a very hot iron.

Instead of brilliant green, you can use a solution of potassium permanganate of the same concentration.

After the text of congratulations is applied to the paper, aged in one of the described ways, the sheet must be rolled up and tied with a beautiful ribbon or pulled with an ordinary cord, the ends of which can be sealed with wax.

Sometimes for different ancient theatrical performances, some accessories are required, here I am one of them and will show you how to create. I will teach you how to make a paper scroll with your own hands and at home. In the old days, decrees, laws or messages were written on a similar scroll. This scroll will fit well into a theatrical performance, and will also serve as a beautiful accessory for any room or collection of ancient things.

The method of creating a scroll is very simple, but it will take a long time to spend on it. Due to the fact that the paper dries for a long time after getting wet, and this is exactly what we will need to do. This method is called a tea scroll, since it is in it that we will give antiquity to paper, or rather, soak a leaf with tea.

Make strong black tea and dip paper into it. Let the leaf lie there a little, in order to darken and become woody, antique. After that, you need to get the future scroll and dry it.

Carefully hang the scroll on clothespins, on a rope just so that there is no sun. The workpiece dries in the summer for about an hour. You can, of course, also on the battery in winter period put.

When the sheet is dry, you can write whatever you want on it. If you know how, you also need to write in a special semi-antique handwriting.

Now we need to make sure that the scroll is twisted, for this we need Chinese chopsticks. We separate them, since at the beginning they are solid at the end and glue them along the edges of the sheet. Then we twist each side into a tube. And if you don’t need to unroll the scroll, then glue both halves too, and if necessary, just fix the scroll with something so that it remains twisted.

Here we created such a paper scroll with our own hands. The most important thing is to give the paper the right color. And twisting is very easy.
